I've been having pretty good luck with XP and my games, but I've just
come across a problem. I just loaded Crimson Skies on XP Home and the 1.02
patch for it. For some reason, everything in the game works fine except the
cutscenes don't play! I can hear the audio, but the screen stays black.
:( I know Crimson Skies is an older game, so I'm hoping someone here has
already run into this problem and has a fix for it.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Later,
Chris

Can't help with the problem but I'm running CS with no problem...to include
the cut scenes. Hope someone can offer some help.

control anti-alaising in display properties tab,

I've got a GeForce 2 GTS. The game plays just fine... but no videos. Funny
thing is, I can open up the .mpg files and watch the videos right off the
CD! I'm baffled.

What drivers are you using? Right now I'm on the 22.80 drivers and I have
the GeForce2 GTS also. It works fine. This is almost always a driver
issue.

I have a GeForce 3 also and had the problem with anti-aliasing that you
spoke of. It seems that CS doesn't like anti-aliasing at 1024x768. If you
can stand to bring the resolution down to 800x600, you can use any
anti-aliasing option you want without the screen blacking out.

Steve,

Thanks for the tip. I got the 22.80 drivers and installed them, but it
didn't help. I also tried uninstalling my divx codec and unchecking mpeg
association with media player. That didn't do anything either. I guess I
just have to exit the game to watch the videos directly off the CD. Its
stupid, but I can't think of anything else...

Thanks,
Chris

Does the opening video play? Or is just the cut scenes? I've complete it
twice, and have not (since upgrading) actually played the game to the point
of going past where a cut scene would play. So, I guess beyond the opening
video I can't actually say the video scenes work on my system at this time
(which is in a constant changing path).

And, I haven't the foggiest why they should be that way! Have you got all
the updates to WinXP? Is your motherboard chipset up to date (seen a LOT of
VIA chipset problems)? I will at some point in the next day or two play the
first sequence again and see if it does in fact work. I'll just tell the
wife, this is official testing, NOT playing a game! (It is our 3 day
weekend. <VBG>)

OK, just did the test, ran through the first sequence until the cut
sequence. All worked fine. So, somewhere, some how, you've got something
that is preventing that. I wish I could help out more, other than to say
"Mine works.", but, I just don't know why they wouldn't. What is your
graphics window size in bios? How much system memory do you have?

Thanks for the fun! I love this game, and have not really played it for a
while.

I do hope you get it working, but at least the game works. The cut scenes
are not that great, the first time though I would bypass them anyhow.

Nope, the opening video doesn't even play. NONE of the .mpg files seem
to want to show up. In fact, the opening selection screen (that's supposed
to have a waving flag in the background) has a black background! I'm
completely confused by this. Of course, this doesn't mean that you can't
play the game this weekend. :)
