System logging out-of-band using AUX port

I can't seem to find a way to do this, but it seems that one
should/must exist...

I want to log the console messages (actually, the snmp traps, but I'll
settle) to a serial device on the AUX port, such as an attached serial
printer. I can't seem to find any way to do this, but I'm sure I'm
just missing something. Anyone? (IOS 12.1.x, if it matters)

Kevin,

Would 'term monitor' achieve what you want? This certainly works on Telnet
sessions and is required if you want to see debug messages on anything other
than the console port. On telnet this has to be enabled on a per-session
basis - I'm not sure about AUX.

It *would* work, if I connected via an interactive session via the AUX
port, that's exactly how to do it. I'm trying to get the messages
sent out automatically to a dumb device on the port. Thanks for the

Sort of a bad idea since it takes a tremendous amount of CPU time but
the easiest thing would be to hang a printer off the Cons port and add
logging console to your config. You can use a null modem to connect
your Cons terminal to your aux port and do just about any management
thing you need to do from there.

"logging aux" is kind of the obverse command; as I understand it that
is the method to set up logging OF activity on the AUX port. We are
trying to take all the logged activity and send it to/out of the AUX
port.

The workaround we're pursuing now is to use the AUX port as an
additional serial link, and set it up with PPP to talk to a router on
the other side. That will allow an IP address to be assigned, and we
can then use the SNMP management options to direct traps across the
link.

It should work ok, but it's a lot more involved than I was hoping was
needed. I'm also confounded that if I needed to hook up a serial
printer to get hardcopy output, there's no easy way to do it. (The
"official" workaround is to hook up a terminal with a printer
attached, login on the terminal, and do a "console monitor". This
doesn't explain what you do when the router is restarted...
