Hi,

I must say that in terms of audio quality I am pretty happy with my
avr 200. But regarding the quality of the unit and the set of
functions I don't know if it's due to the fact that the avr 200 is not
fully engineered by Arcam (it's an OEM) and not manufactured at Arcam
factory but in China (as John Dawson, Chairman of Arcam admitted in
one of the meessage boards) but I must say that I am very disappointed
by some aspects of the design of the avr200.

Here are the problems I have encountered with the Arcam AVR200 unit.
Please note that I haven't managed to get any reply/answer from Arcam
Customer Support nor from Audiophile Systems, their distributor in the
US.

Therefore I have decided to write here to those who might think of
buying the aVR 200 in order to warn them of the following problems:

- To show the dysfonctional and poor engineering of the unit, you will
see that when you want to listen the radio either AM or FM you will
still hear your CD playing in the background if this one is still on.
That means that either the switch are poorly set up of the engineering
is so poor that it does not isolate/separate fully the sound coming
from each source.

- Second thing I noticed: when you turn the volume knob up you can
hear a little glitch/noise. In other term the knob is not "clean" and
create some noise once you turn it. By the way, the buttons use for
the sources are very cheap.

- For the Surround if you select the button Ext. 5.1 from the unit and
wants to select any Surround mode, you will find that it is not
possible. Selecting Ext. 5.1 freezes the unit and you can't unswitch
the 5.1 by repushing this button nor you can't switch the surround
mode any more.

- Last but not least: from time to time the unit switches
automatically and without any reason to another source. It happens
more often when you listen to the radio (FM) suddenly and without
touching anything the unit switches to Aux. I have changed the Remote
batteries and it still does it so it does not come from the remote.
The buttons on the units seem also to be properly pushed.

Now here is where I stand with these issues:
So far no reply and nor answer from Arcam UK Csutomer Service nor its
US distributor.
My unit is still under warranty, but I still don't know if:
1- these issues are problems encountered with all Arcam avr 200 or if
they are specific to my unit.
2- Since I don't hear back from Arcam nor its distributor how can I
know if they would be ready to replace my unit, in the case that the
issues were specific to my unit.
3- If these problems are encountered with all avr 200 what iare my
options? I don't want to replace my unit with another dysfonctional
unit...will Arcam be ready to reimburse me knowing that the problems I
have encountered are basic engineering problems...

Dear fellows I hope you will consider this before you buy an Arcam AVR
200...
I also hope that Arcam and maybe John Dawson will find my message and
find a solution. I was about to buy an Arcam CD92 and an Arcam P85 to
complete my system but after this poor experience with my avr200 I am
feeling pretty skeptical to do so.

Any insights, help, feedback that could help would be greatly
appreciated.
