It *is* still kind of a hack, but it's working well for me on an R4400
indigo2 system running irix 6.5.8m.
Is anyone but me interested in this and would like to test it out?

There are already two PPPoE projects for IRIX >;-).
OK, both are rather buggy and alpha-state software.

Fine..

I know of two, of which one has problems negotiating the correct MTU
(and no, changing the kernel's ethernet mtu didn't help either),
moreover the PPPoE discovery phase implementation had serious flaws. I
have a version of this with a more correct implementation, but gave up
on this due to the mtu problem.
The other one I know of is a kernel implementation, which was not yet
ready when I started with this. I am in contact with its author, but
haven't heard news about the availibility upto now.

Do I hear some fine undertones of sarcasm here? ;)

I needed NAT in the software for routing purposes - that was the main
reason I began with it after all. I incorporated the BSD libalias for
this purpose.

Too late :-} .. already made me my own software ;)
Anyway. If it's something I didn't mention above, do so and drop me a
note. It's never too late to learn something from other people's work.
