There's good news and bad news regarding 900 MHz -
The good news: 900 MHz is less susceptable to losses caused by trees
and other obstructions. It may provide more reliable service than 2.4 GHz
if only one single tree is in the way.
The bad news: The ISP owner may be quoting advertising claims quoted
to him by a manufacturer of 900 MHz wireless equipment. Typically, the
sales people representing most manufacturers of "near line-of-sight" or
"non-line-of-sight" wireless equipment mis-represent the capabilities
of the equipment. The biggest error is one of omission - they don't provide
accurate coverage distances to potential purchasers.
The statement that "it don't care about trees or buildings" is only true at
very short distances from the ISP access point. If you are really located
very close to their access point (say, within 1 mile) you MAY receive
reliable service. The only way to really find out is to try it for a year.
This gives the trees time to go through their "leafing out" cycle.
Let us know the results.
