When I ran Slackware kernel version 2.0.32, I received all sorts of
unknown PCI hardware errors. I believe that they were in reference to
my on board PCI IDE controller (based on the hardware address).
Furthermore, when my Creative Labs Infra1800 IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM drive
was installed on the on board secondary IDE interface, my machine
would timeout on the drive, and then hang up before it registered the
secondary IDE channel. When I removed the drive, Linux would bring me
to the login prompt.
I installed kernel version 2.0.34, and the PCI Hardware error messages
went away, but I still had the locking problem.
I swaped the Creative Labs CD-ROM drive with an InfoMagic IDE/ATAPI
drive, and the problem went away. Although I'm in business now, does
anyone know why I can't use my Creative Labs drive, and how I can get
it to work?
Please email me with any insights to li...@holubow.com.
