I have a donor 85 Audi 4000S That has seen its last days. It has the knock
sensor ignition and Cis-E. I am thinking of transplanting these into my 85
Scirocco 8V. Is this possible? Is it a good idea? Any information on this
would be greatly appreciated.

Thankx
Dave

Why install the knock sensor ignition? You have a low compression 1.8l 8v,
right? Though it might sound basic, if your car didn't come with a knock sensing
ignition, it probably doesn't need one. If the car pings alot, it is most likely
because you've got lots of carbon build up on the valves, you run bad gas, or
your ignition timing is off.

I just upgraded my car to an Audi 2.0l motor and it runs just fine on 93 octane
gas. The compression ratio on that baby is 10.5:1!!! Hell, if that'll work, your
car should be just fine.

I installed a 1.8 rd motor in my buddies 84 GTI with the knock sensor
and it works great. A few advantages are that you can run higher
compression motors without worrying about it melting down. The
computer for the knock control has two ignition maps you can use,
Europeon (Hot) and North American (Cold). The base timing on a big
valve head, 1985 and up is 6 deg btdc and with the knock sensor and
Euro ignition map you can push your timing to 12 - 15 btdc. With these
two changes you get about 5 - 10 hp gain and when you use super
unleaded you can feel the difference. (you can also change to a Euro
ignition map in any CIS-E powered motor by cutting the jumper from pin
3 to pin 11 on the knock sensor control unit and don't forget to
advance the ignition) This is such an easy conversion, I would
encourage everybody to do it. As far as I know you must use a knock
sensor out of a 4 cyl car to make this work I don't think a 5 cyl will
work. If anybody wants more info on this just post a message to this
group and I post the info

I'm planning on installing CIS-E w/ a knock sensor by the end of august. I got
it from an 87 GLI along with the engine so I figured Put everything in so there
are no problems. I know I can do it I just looking for a few tips from people
who have done it. Thanx in advance. If it is possible please post it and
E-mail me, I have been really busy and don't have a lot of time to read the NG
unfortunatly.
