"The Line Eater is a boojum snark." Hug your wolf.
Use that disk as a coaster.
A distribution that old will not have any of the current modules or
drivers and the modules and drivers that you find on the internet will
be for 2.2 kernels or later.
The current kernels are 2.4.+. Mandrake's current general release has
kernel 2.4.18 and 2.5.+ kernels are in early developnment.
Get rid of this distro and get Mandrake 8.2. or RedHat 7.3.
You can get the disks only sets from Cheapbytes at prices in the range
of $10.00 including delivery.
Or if you have a cdrom burner, you can download a set of disks.
Life will be a lot simpler with the 2.4 kernel using installable
modules for your devices. The vast majority of devices have modules
that come with current distributions and are either automatically found
and installed by the distro's installer or can be installed manually in
a simple straight forward manner that does not involve re-compiling the
kernel.
Always keep the KISS principle in mind.
