Quoted material in replies, word wrap

I am a brand new Eudora user (coming from years of working
with Agent). I have downloaded the 4.3 version and am using the
"Sponsored" option while deciding whether I like the program or
not.

One very annoying "feature" which may simply be due to my
inexperience is the "Excerpt Bar," which doesn't seem to do
anything but look funny (to those of us used to ">").

I have changed my ini settings so that word wrap occurs
on-screen when I send/reply a message, and set my wrap length to
65 characters. However, contrary to my reading of the Help files
and the knowledge base, quoted lines are also being wrapped.

This results in lines which look like this:

> This is the first line of quoted material. It goes on for a
> short while
> and then becomes this, the second line of quoted material. I
> really wish
> it would work the way it's supposed to, but for some reason
> it appears
> Eudora and I aren't getting along very well.

How can I fix that?

Also -- and this may be in the Help file and I just haven't
found it yet -- is there a way to associate a particular Mailbox
with a particular Stationery? In other words, every time I
respond to a msg in my "WORK" mailbox, I would like it
automatically to use the stationery I have created for replying
to work; while when responding to a msg in my "MAILING LIST"
mailbox, I would like it automatically to use a different
stationery.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm new to the program too and I love this feature, and being able to
change the level of quotes, is a wonderful feature when replying and
forwarding with fairly complicated conversations between several people.

OE has a bug in this area (you have to go into format/normal and out
again just to be able to break their quote line) that they don't have
any intention of fixing in the near future.

Shows how hard it is for a company to please everyone.

As I said in the rest of my post, it is specifically the
problem with word wrapping which gives me a problem. I'm sure
the bars are just nifty once you get used to them, though
personally I have always tried to avoid quoting back more than
one generation in posts. Present case excluded, obviously. <g>

That gets rid of the Excerpt Bars, thanks. But my original
problem -- Eudora insists on wrapping quoted lines from previous
messages -- is still there.

With my old e-mail program, I was able to set a line length
of 65 character, but quoted lines were not wrapped. They
remained exactly as sent, with the little ">" in front of the
line. Eudora, by truncating each quoted line, gives me replies
which look like:

>This is all one really long line, but for some reason Eudora
>screws it up.
>I don't know what, but I wish it would stop because it makes
>it very
>difficult for other people to read what I'm writing.

And it's just plain annoying. In an ideal world I could
just turn off word wrapping, but unfortunately not everyone uses
email programs which handle that well. Also, quite a few mailing
list programs like listserv and majordomo tend to screw things up
when lines aren't wrapped.

Any help, or is Eudora simply incapable of handling this
seemingly basic task?

Try:

Adding/changing these 3 lines to the eudora.ini file under [Settings]
AlwaysExcerptResponse=0
ConvertFormatFlowedtoExcerpt=0
InterpretFormatFlowed=0

You need the first line for sure, others have said they don't need the
last 2 lines. I am using all 3 lines for my preferences. Remember to
close and restart Eudora after editing the eudora.ini file. YMMV

Try:
Check out the following settings in the eudora.ini file.

WordWrapColumn 76 When the "Word wrap" switch is on, this is the column
in which lines in outgoing messages are wrapped.

WordWrapMax 80 When the "Word wrap" switch is on, this is the length
at which a line in an outgoing message is considered
too long and must be wrapped.

WordWrapOnScreen 0 If this is on (set to non-zero), then the composition
window will automatically wrap text on the screen at
the number of characters specified in WordWrapColumn,
regardless of the width of the window.
