Friday, ESPN.com hosted a chat with Kansas center Eric Chenowith. The third
question was from a Dave fan from Iowa State who asked him how many times he
had seen the band. Chenowith replied, "I've seen them I think 12 times and
the best one was San Diego in 2000."
Chenowith is over 7 foot tall and is in a lot of the pictures that my
friends have from last summer's tour.

I guess this shows how far our little band has yet to go. The Dead had
Bill Walton, we get Eric Chenowith. ;-) BTW, have people here seen many
famous people at Dave shows (other than the boys and their guests)? I play
hockey with a couple of guys who were serious Dead-heads for a while, and
they have some great stories about meeting Bill Walton and Bobby Brady
while on tour...

I haven't seen anyone famous yet, but maybe I'm just too distracted by the
music. :-)

whenever there is a player with the last name Matthews, they turn him to the
Shane Matthews Band, or whatever their first name is...find that
interesting...Chris Berman did it alot during NFL primetime

I actually stole Woody Harrelson's seat at Devore (near LA) last summer.
There were some empty seats a few rows in front of me, so my friend and I moved
up. He showed up late and ended up standing right behind me.. I asked if it
was his seat; it was, so I went back to my real seat. Pretty funny.

From the Sporting News interview with him
(http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/sn/20010126/sp/jayhawks_chenowith_takes_critic
ism_in_stride_1.html):

TSN: How did you score backstage passes to Dave Matthews?
EC: You know that seven degrees of separation? It's kind of like that. I had
a friend who played pro baseball in Michigan and (Dave Matthews) was playing
in Michigan and he knew someone who knew someone who knew someone.

TSN: Did you get to meet him?
EC: Yeah. He was really cool. He made me seem like a jerk. Because I've met
people and spent time with fans and stuff, and I really try to go out of my
way and be nice to them. But he was really, really nice. I can't even
explain how nice he was. He was just really down to earth. He wanted to talk
about basketball. He was joking around. Just a really nice guy.
