I am running Exchange 2000 SP2, and Outlook 2000.

I hit the 32kb limit... and read the knowledge-base
article (q241325) and so I was going to re-work my rules
to get them under the limit. However, as I attempted to
remove rules, I still got the message "There is not enough
space on the Microsoft Exchange Server to store all of
your rules. The rules that failed to upload have been
deactivated". And then it deactivated all of my rules.

I have since saved my rules off to .rwz file, and deleted
all rules... and now the update seems to be OK. However,
if I attempt to add a rule it complains with the same
message (with only one rule in the Rules Wizard). For
some reason the delete rule doesn't seem to be removing
the rules, and freeing the space... becuase my mail is
still being directed via my rules even without anything
visible in Rules Wizard.

Since I am the admin of this Exchange 2000 box, I rebooted
it after all the rules were deleted (to see if that was
needed). Still mail is being directed via my old rules,
and I can't add any rules via the rules-wizard which shows
an empty list.

I can't import back in my rwz file, and save as it
complains similarly.

I have turned off the automatic update and tried various
things and can't get it to manually update the state of
the server or the rules wizard window. I have checked in
System manager and made sure that I am only showing up
once in the Logons section of the my Mailbox Store, and
still can't seem to get this to correct itself.

There doesn't seem to be any MS documentation on this
issue with Exchange 2000... as the knowledge-base article
is specific to Exhange 5.5.

Anywhere that I can manually clean out these errant rules
and start over. As I can't seem to get the "Wizard" to
help me at all.

Any assistance and suggestions would be much appreciated.

A couple of tools that may help:
1) I have used Cleansweep and it cleared up a rogue rule problem for me,
more information here
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q174045.

2) Use the mdbview utility

Thanks for the tips... however problem is not quite solved.

I was successful in removing almost all of the rules
listed in the mdbview. I know I was partially successful,
becuase now my mail is all going into my inbox.

However, there are 5 lines in the mdbview utility still in
the inbox rules section.

They are:

cb: 40|*pb: EF 00 00 00 19 82 62 C0 AA 66 11 CD 9B C8 00
AA 00 2F C4 5A 06 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 10 CC 01 00

00 00 00 04 E9 00

Notice they are the same except for the last two hex
characters.... When I double-click on them to view their
contents I get the follow:
OpenEntry on Folder: MAPI_E_CALL_FAILED

And when I try to delete them either individually or as a
group, I get no error message but they don't disappear
either. I had some 40 rules in here that deleted fine,
but these five will not delete.

Any recommendations or further suggestions as to what
these might be and how I can remove them and get back to
putting my rules back in?

thanks
Jeremy

Hi Jeremy,
Sorry this has taken so long for me to get back I have shown your results to
a person who has used this utility before as soon as I hear anything I will
post back here. Any chance though of emailing me the *.rwz that you
exported.

I have sent the .rwz file to you directly at newsgroups at
crayk.com....

Hopefully this will help, however, I imagine that it would
export good rules, and not be of much help. But if you
can provide any further assistance, it would be much
appreciated.

I have rebooted Exchange, and all clients, and attempted
to use the mdbvu32.exe to remove the rules... however
still to no avail.

Thanks
Jeremy

I want to thank Robert for all of his time in trying to
assist me with this problem. We finally couldn't get
these entries deleted, so we took what we felt was the
last step.

I created a local PST file, and copied all my
messages/contacts/notes/tasks/calendar/etc into it. Then
I created a new mailbox in Exchange and imported
everything from the local PST file back into Exchange
Server. Once I verified I had everything setup and
working (no missing data), I deleted the problematic
mailbox.

In the new mailbox on Exchange, I can now add and delete
rules without a problem.

Unfortunately, I don't have a specific cause to the
problem... and definitely this isn't a "Great" solution,
but it does get me back up and running again.

Thanks
Jeremy
