view source/edit disabled

I have a frustrating problem using IE6. I cannot view the
source code of certain pages, such as search result pages
and other dynamically generated pages. I click the view
source button and nothing happens. And the edit button on
the toolbar is disabled and greyed out. Any suggestions?

One thing I had to resort to to get around this problem is
do a search in my "Temporary Internet Settings" folder and
find the cached files, then edit the source code from
there. Of course, take note of the name of the page or a
unique part of the page name (in the address bar).

Any other tips would be helpful. Happy Thanksgiving! :p

Hi,

This behavior may occur if there are too many files in the Temporary
Internet Files folder or if Notepad.exe is missing or damaged.

To resolve this issue, delete all of the files in the Temporary Internet
Files folder. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start Internet Explorer.

2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

3. Under Temporary Internet files, click Delete Files.

4. When the confirmation message appears, click OK two times.

Hi I have the same problem.

Notepad is working fine (from C:\WINDOWS\system32) and it
does not help to delete my Temporary Internet files.

Does anybody have an other possible explanation?

PS. For a while I thought it was because of
my "popupstopper" program, but the problem continued
after unistalling this program.

Hi,

Please try the following steps:

1. Quit Internet Explorer (if it is running).

2. Double-click My Computer.

3. Click Tools, and click Folder Options.

4. Click the File Types tab.

In the Registered File Types box, click Internet Document (HTML), and then
click the Advanced button.

5. Click Edit under Actions, click the Edit button, and then click Browse
to find notepad.exe.
