Multiple DV Cameras on XP?

I have a Compaq Presario (P3/1Ghz 512MB RAM) running WinXP Pro 2600 (with an
Adaptec FireConnect 4300 card) that seems to be having problems
distinguishing betweem multiple DV cameras on the same card. Is this or is
this not expected behavior is my question.

The Movie Maker in XP sees and works with each camera (one is a JVC
GR-DVL300U and the other is a Sony digital video camera) INDIVIDUALLY (in
this app the JVC camera shows up as JVC DV DEVICE).

I have installed and used the Windows Media Encoder successfully with each
of the cameras INDIVIDUALLY (in this app whichever camera I am using shows
up as Microsoft DV Camera and VCR).

THE PROBLEM: With both camras on, I cannot differentiate between them in
the Windows Media Encoder. I thought I could have more than one Firewire
camera running on the same Firewire board and have multiple instances of the
Encoder running, one for each camera. WRONG.

It seems that I can have multiple Encoders running, but not from two DV
cameras. I did get two Encoders running concurrently, one with a DV camera,
one with an iBot from Orange Micro.

Am I trying to do something the DV & Firewire support in XP isn't supposed
to do or what?

Thanks in advance!
