Thru Norton Utilities I have just discovered 4.18 Mb being used by ie4 for a
MS_WebcheckMonitor.
Does anyone know how to turn this feature off so I can save some RAM?

I believe it is the application that is needed to subscribe to channels.

Since I have found subscriptions totally useless, I simply started up in
DOS mode and deleted the Webcheck loader (c:\windows\system\loadwc.exe).
Do so at your own risk, but here IE4 now loads more quickly and I have
an extra 4MB RAM to play with :)
I also deleted the Registry key that loads loadwc.exe, but that is not
essential, I think. You can find it, I think, in:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run
Enjoy your RAM - it should be yours to enjoy, not Microsoft's !
