FOOTBALL AND FUTURAMA - 2002

One report (okay, it was Zap2It, so take it with a grain of salt)
says that the Futurama season premiere will be November 10. (This
makes some sense, as they can guarantee that it will air in New
York - but more on that later.)
For those of you new around here, Fox has a habit of having its
NFL games run into the Futurama time slot, at least in the eastern
half of the country. Half of the time, there isn't any episode,
and the other half, quite a few stations get the episode "already
in progress".

Here's the explanation:
Each week, either CBS or Fox gets to show two games. (The term
"CBS Doubleheader Day" and "Fox Doubleheader Day" will refer to
which network's stations get two games.)
When it's a Fox Doubleheader Day, the second game always starts at
7:15 Eastern. Fox knows there's very little chance of the game
ending early enough to show more than a few minutes of Futurama in
the Eastern and Central time zones, so they simply show a post-game
show until 7:30 and not show Futurama. In the west, a rerun (usually
from an early season) airs.
When it's a CBS Doubleheader Day, most Fox stations get to choose
whether to show a 1:00 game or a 4:05 game. The ones that show a
1:00 game will air a full episode of Futurama that night. The ones
that show a 4:05 game will air Futurama when the game ends - and,
unless somebody changed the policy (yeah, right), will air it in
progress. In fact, if the game runs past about 7:20, those stations
may decide not to air the episode at all. I suggest you BEG and
PLEAD your local Fox station to air a 1:00 game on these days.
However, there are special rules for Fox stations that are in a
team's "home market" (usually defined as something like the station
being within 75 miles of the stadium). If the "local team" is
playing an away game, or a home game that has sold out at least 72
hours before the kickoff, that game has to be shown. (If it is a
home game, the other network's station cannot air a game at the same
time, even if it means they can only show one game on one of their
doubleheader days.) If, however, the team is playing a home game
that does not sell out, it is "blacked out" and the local station
cannot air it; furthermore, for some strange reason, neither station
in that area can air a doubleheader if that happens.

Anyway, here's what you've been waiting for: the list of NFL cities
that will or won't air full episodes. Note that cities in the
Mountain and Pacific time zones are not listed because those cities
will always get full Futurama episodes, except that Denver (and
Phoenix, beginning 10/27) might get an episode in progress if a game
happens to run four hours.

First, the Fox doubleheader days (no Futurama in the Eastern or
Central time zones; a rerun in the rest of the country)
September 8, 22
November 3, 24
December 1, 15, 29

Next, the days nobody gets Futurama because of post-season baseball:
October 6, 13, and 20 (and 27 if the World Series lasts seven games)

Finally, the moment you've all been waiting for...

"YES" means definitely a full episode
"Yes?" means a full episode is likely, but not guaranteed
"Yes*" means "YES" if the game is sold out and "Yes?" if not
"NO" means definitely in progress
"No?" means in progress is likely, but not guaranteed
"No*" means "NO" if the game is sold out and "No? if not
"?" means that Fox station has the choice to show an early game
(which is "YES") or a late game (which is "NO")

If the World Series lasts 7 games, there will be no episode on 10/27

Man, Fox sucks. How is it that a TV station can care so little for its own
programmes... does the simpsons get treated this way too, and if so why oh
why did MG allow fox to have Futurama when they obviously don't give a rats
ass about it.

Didn't Matt retain all rights to Futurama, but he sold the rights to The
Simpsons to Fox?

So they make full use of The Simpsons, and grind Futurama into the dirt?
