This afternoon I was messing arounf and statred seeing the screen
widen and the fonts started acting kinda strange when I was reading
news. About 10 seconds later I smelled snoke and then saw it coming
out the top. The display is now dark with a thin white line across
the display. When I attemp to turn it back on it just smokes...alot.

I bought it in December 2001at Computers4Sure.com for around $450.

Here's the question: Should I send it back under warranty and get it
fixed. Costs me $30 to ship it to them. They will repai it and send it
back in 7-14 days. Can they put these thing in like new condition or
will there always be some speculation about were they inded fixed it
right and It won't burn down my house when I step out for 30 minutes
to get a pack of smokes.

The new ones are down to about $275 at CDW. I'm thinking of biting the
bullit and buying a new one for piece of mine. and Toss the fried one
in the dumpster and forget about.
This sucks!!!! A high-end monitor bites the bucket after just a year
and half of use. Anyone have any suggestions for better monittors than
the ViewSonic.s?

Jeff:
I would send it back to Viewsonic.
$30 is a lot cheaper than buying a new monitor.
If had a good picture, it is worth spending the $30
A lot of monitors are being made in China today and they do not
seems to last more than 2 to 3 years at the most. Even brand name
stuff, like Dell, is being made in China.

And that's any worse than being made in Taiwan, Korea, or Japan?

While it's certainly true that China churns out a lot of very
cheaply built products, the OEM is responsible for quality-
assurance and what not. If a bunch of shoddy manufacturing came
from China, it's because the manufacturer shopped around for
the lowest bidder and got what he paid for...just like when
you go to Sears and buy the cheapest DVD-player on the rack.
