Hello,

I keep seeing those SQUAT log from my Cyrus installation in the logfiles
like these:

Nov 11 23:40:55 mail imapd[404]: [ID 299345 local6.debug] SQUAT failed
to open index file
Nov 11 23:40:55 mail imapd[404]: [ID 418793 local6.debug] SQUAT failed

The problem I have no clue what SQUAT is and if this debug message is
bad or not ?

Regards

Do worry about them. Stop logging at the debug level, and you won't see
them. See squatter(1) if you want to know what SQUAT is.

I read the man page, does that mean that SQUAT is not enabled per default
? If yes how can I enable it ?

imapd will always look for cyrus.squat in a mailbox. If it doesn't
exist, or a message hasn't been indexed, imapd will SEARCH the message
text itself. The only way to get the performance gain that SQUAT
provides is to periodically (re)create the index for your mailbox(es)
with squatter.
