Hi.

It seems like Kylix2 has a dbExpress driver for PostgreSQL.
But What about Delphi 6?

Besides Oracle and M$ SQLServer,I feel like I should support a cheap/free
db as well.

I started using Interbase/Firebird, but
a) The client is not threadsafe.
b) The connection is not threadsafe, requiring a connection per thread.

I have absolutely no experiense with PostgreSQL, but what about you?
Does PostgreSQL suffer from theese bugs/'features'?

What about it? Delphi 6 has already been released. Kylix 2 would
naturally have more features than Delphi 6 in the language area. Are you
saying you would like to buy a dbExpress PostgreSQL driver for Delphi 6?

Please clarify: are you using Interbase or Firebird? They are different
products.

I know, I have bought both Kylix server + D6 Enterprise.

Sorry for not being so clear, English is not my Native language. The
question was(in my head) will there be a dbExpress driver avaible for D6?
I would like it from Borland, not Thirdparty.

I am not sure I am interested in either of them because of b).

a) The client/dbExpress is not threadsafe. This has been discussed, and
confirmed as a bug.
b) The connection is not thread safe, and will aparently never bee, see the
thread:

Specially message 28 form Craig:

This is correct. An IB connection can only be used in one thread
concurrently.

Basically i am interested in standard (multithreaded server) programming
against many databases, and cross platform.

My target customers is very big, so they have Oracle or MS SQLServer
already.
But that could rule out the small companies here in DK, so I would like to
offer a 'low price' product.

I don't know. I'll find out if we're going to be making one available. I
don't see a lot of people using PostgreSQL on Windows. Do you? You're,
in fact, the first one I recall in a long time.

Never is a very long time.

I hope to use Postgres from Delphi 6. Currently I have the Zeos tools but
would prefer Borlands dbExpress.

We can access PostgreSQL server (under Linux/Whatever) from
Delphi (under Windows), that's why we need dbExpress driver for
Delphi. Or do I miss something here?

Perhaps. I'm not talking about its accessibility. Rather, I'm talking
about its market share for Delphi developers.

We do have plans for a dbExpress Postgres driver for Kylix customers and

the same can be made available on Windows for Delphi customers.

Okay John, you keep counting :-)
