Can anyone help me out with a LEGO mystery that has kept me wondering
for a long time? I have one of the large 48x48 stud (or more likely
50x50) baseplates. However, it is Green (not the normal grey) and it
has a grey roadway (with no lines in it) running thru it in a pattern
that can best be described as a large "T", but all of the parts are
curvy . It sort of looks like a question mark with an extra street
branching off to the right from the back of the curve of the "?".

I bought this at a resale shop in 1985, and have never been able to
determine where (or when) it came from. I assume that it has to be from
circa 1968-72, because prior to that they didn't use the thin
baseplates, and because I have gaps for some of these years for LEGO
Catalogs in my collection. It also does NOT have "LEGO" written on any
of the stud tops. But I think that it is LEGO, since I have other old
baseplates with this quirk.

This one has me stumped!

I've been mystified about this baseplate for 13 years.... so yesterday I
finally posted a message asking if anyone has ever seen this baseplate.
Well last night I got home to find the 1970 LEGO Dealer Catalog I purchased
on EBAY had arrived. And on the last page I found a large picture of this
plate with a "new in 1970" description. It was a 50x50 stud baseplated that
was also available in all grey and all green that year. This green plate
with grey roadway meandering thru it must not have been very popular. I've
never seen another example available for sale or auction.

Anyway, I've finally solved the mystery.

Does it have LEGO written on it anywhere? This baseplate doesn't sound
anything like a normal LEGO baseplate. I haven't got those catalogues in
hand yet, I'll have to wait to get them from my grandma's with quite a
few Cellulose Acetate bricks and stuff. All the instructions still
exist.
