Late last week I successfully used the flarcreate command to create a
Flash archive of / to tape on this Solaris 8 4/01 x86 machine using the
following syntax:
flarcreate -n "Archive Name" -t /dev/rmt/0

Subsequent results of the flar command query showed the archive size to
be within the expected range.

On Friday, Solaris 8 Maintenance Update 7 and the latest Webstart Flash
patches were successfully installed:
a) 108994-10
b) 109319-29
Other patches required by 109319-29 are current.

Now the flarcreate command barely works, if at all, when trying to
create a Flash archive for /. The only success I'm having is creating
archives for individual filesystems such as /usr and /export/home.

Whereas before the MU 7 upgrade, it took about an hour to create the /
archive, now it just goes off into an endless loop trying to determine
the archive size. It never gets to the point of writing it to tape.

Any ideas here?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Maybe you can work around with an explicit find, see e.g.
