Now I know why it was so difficult to order the sliding rear window on a
Chevy. It was a poor design and they were having trouble with it. That
said, mine cracked in two at the upper right-hand corner at the end of the
sliding window track and is now letting mother nature in, as well as a
whistling sound when I turn the fan on.

How about y'all??

Should I throw some black silicon rubber in there myself or should I squeeze
the dealership on a materials and workmanship issue? Sometimes it is just
easier to fix things yourself, like the whistling mirrors.

Any comments would be most appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my 1999 Silverado. I had it replaced twice
under warranty. The second time the dealer took it two a local auto glass
co and had them put an aftermarket window in. No problems for over a year.

I have a 2000 Silverado. On my third rear window. They finally put in an
after market window, and that fixed the cracking window frame problem.
Seems to be a better window, too. The other water problem in the same area
is the seam where the top meets the side panel behind the third door. That
leaked like a sieve.

It is a known problem. The dealer will/should fix it, and it should be even
easier for you now since they know to go straight to the aftermarket
product.

Good luck.

Yup, did it this morning. So far so good. I agree that the one they chose
is better looking than the original. What does this say about GM
engineering or their supplier? I have the short cab, so it shouldn't be a
problem. Overall the process was relatively painless except for me killing
a couple of hours.
