Hi,
just trying to find out if my friends computer will work without hp's
oem windows 95 operating system, if it is possible to install windows 98
(not the upgrade cd, but the operating system for pc's without an
operating system) ? I was wondering if the bios has any little traps,
set so that, it will not work with the win98 OS, unless I have the hp
oem windows 95 operating system already on the system.

I've posted a few days back, but got no response... I even went to hp's
web site, and their site is super slowwww! I sent them an email with all
the required parameters filled in, and still have not got a response
from them at all, it's been 4 days, going on 5 now .

If anyone has suggestions or can point me somewhere, it would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Shane

Good luck. I've just spend a week trying to get Win98 (or Win95) to
install in a Vectra with a standard Microsoft boot disk and CD. No
luck. Win98 installs, then claims it can't find vmm32.vxd. Its there
in the \system subdirectory, just that the OS can't find it. Don't even
ask about Win95. Same story - MS boot disk and CD. Won't even
finish installing. These Vectra's are total MEGA-KLUDGE!

You can say that again. HP used to have a great web site. Easy to
navigate. Easy to find the info you needed. Now it totally sucks. And
it has to be one of the slowest on the web. Not worth the trouble!

If you get response at all, consider yourself VERY lucky. HP tech
support is worse than their web site. Total cluster fuck.

Get another machine. Vectra's are shit
TV

What model of Vectra do you have. We have several hundred that work
just fine with Win95 and those we've upgraded run Win98 fine also.......
