Oh no! This won't fall on deaf ears at all. It may take me a while to
respond with my hectic work schedule and trying to do this web-site
stuff at the same time. I really appreciate your letter and you concerns.
You're more than welcome to post this up on the newsgroups since
I'm really computer illiterate and wouldn't know how to post anything
there. It's been plenty difficult trying to learn enough of Flash to
do the work that's already appeared on the site.

About the site: well, the site is intended for us all to have a good
chuckle, and not intended to make fun of anyone. I've specifically made
sure that no one was directly caricatured. The Minerva Squirrel page
was a joke in itself, as I pretty much just drew Minerva Mink from model
but re-colored her to be a different character. The guy that looks like
Mitch Beiro is actually based on Tony Fucile. Tony was the animator who
worked on Mufasa in the Lion King. In fact, all of the characters you'll see
in the pages already there, and ones to come are either just made-up fans,
or are drawings based on friends of mine: Disney animators, producers
and so on.

The reason why the site is so mysterious is because a friend of mine was
given an advance copy of my new comic that is coming out, and he
mentioned it on a site called Animation Nation, and posted the web site
address. When he made that little statement I just about dropped my drawers,
because I wasn't intending to work on the site until a little closer to the
date of the San Diego Comic Con. So in one week I had to teach myself
Flash Animation and Adobe GoLive, and animate something to be there
when people went to it. I admit the site appears crude at the moment
and without much explanation for it being there. The programs keep
fighting me all the way, which is why there's no e-mail button for feedback
on the site yet and no pre-loaders or other little finishing touches.

This is not a malicious attack from an outsider, as some people have
suggested. Far from it. I've been around Furry Fandom since the early 80's
and have been working at Disney as an animator for about 22 years now.
I enjoy drawing sassy animal characters and even build and wear my
costumes at the conventions. You probably last saw me at Further
Confusion as Secret Squirrel, standing in the corner like a dope. I have
built a big, sexy girl rabbit doll that the entire animation industry
jokingly refers to as my "wife" So what better person to do a satirical
look at ourselves than one of our own who's been a furry far since most
of today's fans were in kindergarden (egad! I'm getting old!)

Upcoming pages will have cartoon animal characters both male and
female, and lots of silly fans. I want to try get across the feel of
the bawdy humor of the old Benny Hill show and make an amusing
contrast between these beautiful animal characters and goofy,
disgusting fans (and yes, I think we all understand that not all
fans are like this!)

The next page I'm working on, (I dont know when it'll get done
because I'm locked in mortal combat with Flash and Adobe
GoLive) is a section with a new, re-designed Cheshire Cat.
I hope it'll be funny and entertaining with a dab of humpiness
to it.:)

If you like the web pages, then you'll love the comic. It's in a very
similar vein, but done up like a copy of Mad Magazine. The few
people that have seen it thought it was really funny and that
you'd all like it.

Folks who still think my only purpose is to poke fun should be
pleasantly surprised by my follow-up comic. It's something I think
furries will really enjoy. It's a science-fiction story about a
cartoon horse. You can see the previews of it at the San Diego
Comic-Con as well as pick up a copy of the Furries comic. This
new book will be an on-going story and it's what I've really been
spending most of my effort on lately.

Well, I hope this dispells any rumors about what the site is all
about -- and, if there's anyone out there who knows Flash and
Adobe GoLive, please drop me a line! You can also easily reach
me on FurryMuck (yes, I have a character there too, he's the
Cheshire Cat who, like me, enjoys playful teasing, but is not
downright evil.) Thanks for the e-mail, and if there's a page you'd
like to see animated, including me as a weasel with mange as
Furplay has suggested, please let me know :)

Sincerely,

Shawn Keller

Not bad all in itself, and I appreciate the satire in it.

However, some of the more vocal aspects of the fandom (at least online) have
had the humor quotient that of a brick[1].

And if you want to see some of his most recent work, go catch Atlantis. He

I'm impressed by someone who claims to be "computer illiterate"
and still manages to learn Macromedia Flash and Adobe GoLive in
just one week. I wish I was that "illiterate!"

I'm also impressed by Shawn's talent for character design,
expression and movement. He's truly one of the Secret Masters of
Furry Fandom; in addition to his cartooning skills, he was building
and wearing fursuits at least a decade before the fad caught on
among the furry crowd. He's also done a lot of behind-the-scenes
work at ConFurence, so to say he hates furry fans is simply wrong.

Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to more brutally funny
cartoons on furryfans.com. I hope Shawn will let us know when
his comic is published -- I want to get my copy as soon as it
hits the stands.

Yes, he is....the first Disney feature that I saw his name on the credits was
'The Great Mouse Detective', and I can reall meeting the fellow a few years
before that when he was still at 'CalArts'...

As to Dave Kuhn, I can remember way back at 'ConFURance #3' or so when he was
just getting introduced to the fandom as well as fursuiting, and wanting to get
a job at 'Disney Feature Animation', and first headed to Warner Bros. TV
Animation for 'Animainacs', ect, ....then while watching 'Pocahontas' his name
showed up under one of the animators for 'Meeko'. (He likes racoons-or did back
then.... :-) )

At any rate: I look forward to seeing your comic when it comes out! The last
major thing independent-wise comic that I bought that had my attention or
interest was 'Dan Flahive's Space Wolf' many moons back....

Yes, I actually am.

Though, what am I gonna do? Arguing doin't help, I just get shoved into the
same corner as the burned furs. I'f I'm too leeniant with things, I get

Sure, sure, I'll still be a furry, always will, just not 'publicly' for the

The way I heard it was that Dave Kuhn drew a skunk with his finger on
the dirty window of a camper shell of a friend's truck, and that person
later painted it in. At the con, everyone thought it was Dave's truck.

Well, they arre not BLATENTLY ripping off, thats the key there. If they
used EXACT charachteratures and plots, perhaps. They are mearly browwing

Still, this is the same company who's roots are in paganism, and supposedly

BTW, I found a VERY intersting picture the other day, about the faked lunar
landing, etc, once again. This one is GOOD. I'll upload it to FN later,
now that I think about it.

"Habit"? Even if I accepted that LK was a rip-off of Kimba -- which I don't
-- that's only two examples, separated by several other features. How does this
constitute a 'habit'?

Shawn was a ROWRBRAZZLEr, predating either of us; used to go by the

Also, if I'm not mistaken -- and I could be -- I believe Shawn also drew
the Bugs Bunny newspaper strip for a few years. (I'm not absolutely positive
about that; maybe Tim Fay can correct me if I'm misremembering?)

The only people who need to do some spin control are the morons posting
links to Cub-Porn on a Website that expressly prohibits pornography
and even eroticism of any kind for all intents and purposes. It's funny
how the most G-rated fans are the ones giving the fandom the biggest black

Why bother, cross-eyes? If people can't be able to tell the difference

Fantasies about child sex are, in reality, a Warning Sign. Like chest pains or
a birthmark that changes color. Except the danger isn't just to you, but to
other people as well--to other people *prinicipally*.

Yes, Shawn, along with Brett Koth and John "Topfox" Cawley, worked
on the Looney Tunes strip while it was in syndication. John wrote
and Shawn and Brett drew, if I remember right.

Shawn has a long and impressive resume; he's worked on just about
every Disney animated feature since he started there in 1981. And
when he wasn't at Disney, he worked at Warner's. He's the kind of
fellow that when he's not drawing at work, he's drawing at home for
fun. He is as prolific as he is talented.

Let me summarize for you.

Someone makes a point or expresses an opinion he doesn't agree with.

He calls said person a pribbling beetle-headed whey-face and posts in
smug assurance that he is superior too all of fandom.

It's actually pretty darn amusing.

Something like that, yup... actually, I asked why he was here if he
holds the fandom in such low esteem, and we went from there. :)

Hmmm... If there was a sudden (bowel) movement in the fandom that supported

I can understand that. But you shouldn't feed them. It really
does only encourage them.

Like most trolls, Corndog follows a rather predictable pattern.
He'll go away, now, for about three weeks, and then he'll be back
with more rants on some other Threat to Furry Fandom.

: tossed over into the corner the 'stick ma fingers in ma ears' of people.

Actually it's quite easy to avoid being labelled as one of the "stick your
fingers in your ears" people.

A) Don't post anything, just read the newsgroup. Most of us here don't
make any assumptions about anyone's opinions or personality unless they've
actually said something. Ok, ok, I know that as loudmouthed and opinionated
as you either are or pretend to be, this option probably doesn't suit you.

B) Post about neat furry stuff you like, reply to messages about neat
furry stuff other people like, and don't say anything about all the
silly controversial "Oh my god this magazine article is destroying the
fandom and it killed Kenny you bastards" type discussions. Most people
won't assume you're "stick your fingers in your ears man" unless you
actually go into the flamewars and say "Actually that's not so bad and the
fandom is ok". If you take all your time saying "Hey here's a neat new
furry comic I saw" and "Oh yeah, I saw that movie too, it was pretty cool"
most people will just assume you're a reasonably pleasant fellow furry fan
and not give you a hard time about anything.

I do have to wonder - if you agree that arguing doesn't help, why do you
do it so much? Or are you done with it now, pretty much?

One could hope. :X)

: Sure, sure, I'll still be a furry, always will, just not 'publicly' for the
: fandom, as the fandom as a whole can just waste away, as its never gonna
: change.

Actually it's growing at a modestly healthy pace. I suppose the people
who like it just the way it is now don't need it to change, but it will
change a little over time anyway. And the people that want it to change
a lot won't get that, nor get it changing necessarily in the directions
they want it to. And so it goes.

: Woohoo.. cheap thrills!

: Kinda like when you stick a Q-tip in your ear and swirl it around for a few
: moments type of thrill, or the same type when you sniff a permanent marker
: type? ;)

Q-tips are far inferior to bananas, ear-insertion-wise.
