I drop in to this newsgroup a few times a year. I don't listen as
much to Gord like I use to many years ago. I've expanded my musical
horizons and there are many great artists and music out there.

Anyway, as I was thumbing through the latest issue of Saltscapes
magazine (east coast Canadian magazine) at Chapters I noticed this
article on JP Cormier and his forthcoming tribute cd to Lightfoot.

Thank you. I guess I'm tired or dull. Which of the 32 possible image
links on that page am I supposed to click to get to anything related to
Gordon Lightfoot? Just curious because, at some point, even I don't
have enough time to click on every ****ing thing.

Lemmee guess, the post itself? That link is just a signature.
Thought I'd share the news scoop with the group. Unless it's been
psoted by someone else already? And don't be so narrow-minded, I use
to come here many years ago and there were many posts not Gord
related. Chill out, lifes too short :)

That probably took maybe a few seconds compared to time you spend on
this forum? I don't know, haven't been here for quite awhile.
Getting out for a little exercise and some fresh air will help with
the testiness :) Enjoy.

From article on JP Cormier: "This year should see the release of four
CDs, the Lightfoot tribute included. Why lightfoot?

"He is my favourite singer/songwriter of all time," says Cormier
without hesitation."

Remember, you heard it here first :)

Oh, I see you have a signature link too. Is that all Lightfoot
related? Thought not :) Do you see me moaning and complaining?
Nope. Why would I care what you do? If I'm not interested I just
move on. Easy.

All I'm saying is chill out and enjoy life (and there's more to life
than just Lightfoot...as talented a song writer as he is). I know, I
have almost everyone of his albums and CDs but the amount of beautiful
music out there from other talentyed artist is just enormous and many
from Canadians too. Just picked up the new Sarah Harmer cd..she being
a Kingston, Ontario native and it's quite good. The new one from Dido
is very nice too....better than her first I think. Just last week I
listened to John Denver again after a long absence (after his untimely
death) and his Wildlife 2-cd set is simply his best work. The quality
of the recording is very good.

I have no idea what this forum is like nowadays as I come here maybe a
few times a year (have a lot of other interests)...there were no forum
police from what I recall in the old days. Some peoples ego did get
in the way at times back then which was rather unpleasant....trying to
outscoop one another, claiming who posted what info first etc. It was
rather immature and childish really. This kind of behaviour was petty
and it did turm me off and many others I'm sure. I remember this one
nasty spat between Wayne Francis and someone and didn't see much of
Wayne right after that.

But I wasn't here for that. During my time here I posted and shared
quite a bit of Lightfoot info and hopefully many appreciated it. Of
course I posted under another name so many will not recall "xyz". I
just did a Google search and there are many other posters using the
same moniker. Some not so nice too :)

Anyway, pick up a copy of Saltscapes magazine next time you're at a
Chapters everyone. Here's another snippet from the article: "So here
I am in the spring of 2004, patient as possible, waiting for the
release of JP Cormier's tributer CD to Gordon Lightfoot." "Yet while
Lightfoot's throat-catching ballads were a staple in my growing-up
home and every home since, I'd never heard of Cormier's music before
the first Cape-Breton-based Guitar Summit he co-founded...".

I believe Ed was just asking where the link to the article is. He went to
your personal site, which you put on your original message, thinking it was
the link to the article you were referring to. Nobody here is accusing you
of posting something that's off topic, particularly when it's about somebody
doing a tribute to Lightfoot.

Ed unlike you to be so unadventurous. There are in fact no less than
371 images in 13 galleries on that site some very nice but as far as I
saw not one was actualy a golf pic. Nar what you were supposed to do
was be curious and google for
"j.p. cormier" and then search within the 22000 results for
"lightfoot" and only then you would have found that J is for john
and P is for paul so he might be pontificating!!! and on his website
is naturally enough:-
http://www.jp-cormier.com/bio.htm
in which the aforementioned gent is revealed as at some point having a
new GL tribute album called long river which may well have been issued
yonks ago
He has also had at least one earlieralbum released on Borealis and
looks a tad higher than Gord.
Just trying to help!!

There is no link to an article. What I mentioned was that it's an
article in a magazine. The latest issue I believe. Don't have the
website (if one exists).

The name for the site may be somewhat of a misnomer as I did start out
photographing golf related images (OK, snapshots) but found the two
activities didn't really mix (playing golf and taking pics at same
time or in between swings) well. Also, my area of interest had
expanded to include other subject matter....alas, there are but a few
golf related galleries still remaining on the site. So, you didn't
look hard enough :) j/k

I'm perfectly chilled. When someone posts a message and says "... I
noticed this article ..." followed by a link I just, incorrectly in this
instance, assume that if I go to the link it will have info related to
the comment. Sorry to trouble you.

By the way, yours is not a standard Usenet signature and most people who
frequent Usenet wouldn't necessarily see it that way. ;-)

A standard sig line is indicated by two dashes and a space, a carriage
return, and /something/ else, usually at least a name. As in my signature.

The "-- " allows proper newsreader software to strip out the sigs to
prevent needless bloat in ongoing threads. Just offering the info for
reference and also to further explain my confusion over your post.

I'm not testy, just trying to figure out your post. Sorry, won't bother
you again.

I'm with Ed on this. It looked for all the world like that link was s'posed
to take me to the article abot the Gord tribute album. When I clicked, I
thought, "hey, what kind o' dirty spammer trick is this?"

hey, xyz, I think Ed thought as I did, that your "signature" was a link to
the article you were speaking of. Usually when someone has a link in their
signature, it follows their name or some other reference to let folks know
it's a signature and not part of the post.

Ed's one of most open minded folks when it comes to straying off topic - he
just thought you were giving us a link to the article and couldn't find any
Lightfoot reference at there. If he had realized it was your signature, he
wouldn't have said a thing.

Same for me, but thankfully I read all the other posts before trying to
follow the link, thus saving a few strands of hair. No big deal, but I
do see the confusion.

Great to hear that JP Cormier is putting out a Lightfoot Tribute CD. I read
an article a few years ago, that he is a big fan of Lightfoot's music. He
recorded Lightfoot's Whispers of the North on one of his albums a few years
ago, it was really good.

JP is a great songwriter & heck of a guitar player. He can pick that guitar
pretty good.

Hi, Cathy

I am doing well, still playing the guitar, learning new tunes every day.

It has been a while since I posted a message on this newsgroup. I come to
this newsgroup once in a while to see what's new and exciting.

How about yourself, I hear you have your first album coming out this year.

Yeah, I recorded it Grant Avenue, with Bob Doidge doing highstring, lead
guitar, accordion, drums, bass, and all the other stuff. It's very cool!
I'll have clips on my website soon.
