sonicfans,

i know the subject of different noise bands comes up once and awhile, but
i have yet to see someone mention the incredible indie-wank band
"hovercraft". they have an album out called "akathisia" which contains 5
different pieces no shorter than 10 mins in length. the sound is basically
repetitive basslines and complementing drums highlighted by dissonant,
resonant, weird guitar sounds. very sonicyouthish in my opinion but not as
interesting (im sorta biased;) but definitely give this a listen if you
can find it.
if anyone has heard of them, tell me what you think.

I do a semiregular feature called the Hype Moment. Basically I pick a band that has
been getting to much hype and play a song and typically ridicule it over the air
(Orange Cake Mix, for example, tho I'm sure they have some devoted fans here).
Because of the hype surrounding Hovercraft with the bassist being married to Eddie
Veder, I played the first song off the ep, expecting to yank it in a few minutes.
Surprisingly, I found myself getting into it and played it a few more times while the
record was new. I wouldn't claim to be a 'fan', but they are worth checking out.

^I seen 'em once about two or three years ago. they opened up for Mike Watt.
Foo Fighters was the other opening band. Anyway, Hovercraft came out and played this 20 or 30 minute instrumental with full stage projections going on behind them. very trippy. Very cool. Not that this matters much, but I had always
heard that hovercraft was headed up by Beth Vedder. Otherwise known as Eddie's
wife.

An interesting side note, While Foo Fighters' career has taken off, I recently
saw Mr. Watt again, only this time in a bar playing to maybe 100 people. Oh
well.

HELLO! edved is not the drummer anymore and he hasnt been for a long
time- why must he be mentioned every time hovercraft comes up? hovercraft
is awesome by its own merit and doesnt need a big name in it to make it
important

hovercraft is pretty fab, i think. i wouldn't say they remind me of sonic
youth, really, though. mebbe i've just never made the connection. they
were scheduled to do a show here but it didn't happen... i was all looking
forward to it, too... if anybody knows anything about touring info i'd
appreciate an e-mail. thanks.
