No parking charge at youth park

Yakima County has changed it's mind about charging you to use
the Ahtanum Youth Park. To help with budget cuts, the county
had been tossing around the idea of charging a dollar to park
your car. It's scrapped that idea.
The Yakima Valley BMX Association and Youth Soccer Organization
strongly opposed the fee. Parks and Rec Director Dave Veley say
those two carried some weight in the final decision. The county will
now look at other ways to fund the park.
"(We will)look at some donation stations and solicit the help
from the BMX Association and Youth Soccer Association to
help us in collection of some donations; possibly as one way
to seek some additional revenue and make the park operations
work this year," Veley said.
Mike Bull of the Yakima Valley BMX Association
was pleased with the outcome.
"It's very good news to the bmx association all of us are
volunteers we built that track entirely on volunteer time,
volunteer money."
Effective today, the cost of renting
buildings at the park is going up 20-percent.
