Grits, A Song...

Well, it's been awhile since anyone has raved about grits, so here is a
little grits prose I found in a book by Roy Blount, Jr. titled One Fell
Soup, or, I'm Just a Bug on the Windshield of Life. Roy is from the south,
grew up in Atlanta, attended school at Vanderbilt and now lives in somewhere
in the northeast for some odd reason. Anyway, he had an entire chapter on
food songs and I decided to start with grits. If you want the okra song JJ,
all you have to do is ask (and Roy, if you are on the net, sorry, I can't
afford any royalties).

What knits
Me back together's grits.

Grits with gravy,

Of two over-medium eggs mixed in 'em: um!

Grits I sing --
Grits fits
In with anything.

Rich and poor, black and white,
Lutheran and Campbellite,
Jews and Southern Jesuits,
All acknowledge buttered grits.

Give me two hands, give me my wits,
Give me forty pounds of grits.

Grits at taps, grits at reveille.
I am into grits real heavily.

True grits,
More grits,
Fish, grits and collards.
Life is good where grits are swallered.
