I installed PGP 7.0.3 in Win XP and now my firewall don't work and so my
home network. Now I even have internet connection. I had to send this
message throught a friend's computer. I have unistalled it, but I still have
the problem.

Any ideas???

Thanking in advance,

You need to run the command line:

sc config ipsec start= system

That should allow your Internet connections to work again. You only
need to do it the once, not every time you boot or anything.

The problem has occurred because as part of PGP7 you have installed
PGPnet. PGP apparently disables the IPSEC service, (it knows no better,
the program was made before Windows XP was released).

You may install PGP7 again, without the PGPnet component. You are
unlikely to need PGPnet. Without PGPnet you do lose the PGP fire
Personal firewall as well as PGPvpn.

XP does have its own firewall facility, but it is single sided - it only
controls traffic in, not traffic out. That means it can protect you
against attacks from outside, but not those from within (Trojans).
There is other free software that does a better job of firewalling, such
as Kerio Personal Firewall 2.

If you insist, then you can install PGPnet & use its firewall. You will
just need to run that "sc config ipsec start= system" after installing
(& again if you ever reinstall or uninstall). The choice is yours.

There are one or two limitations on the use of PGP7 with XP, see:

PGP8 is going to support XP properly, but that will even Beta until the
autumn.

Sorry, probably more than you wanted to know here, the short answer is:
run the command line:

sc config ipsec start= system

Uninstall !!

XP 7.03 is not compatible with XP. The new version 8.0 is, but it
will be released in october.

& uninstall doesn't fix it.

Hmm, I thought that was the case, but perhaps my memory was playing
tricks. I can find little trace of it now.

"The products, PGP 8.0 for Windows and PGP 8.0 for Macintosh, will ship
in November of 2002."
