There is no way to access the BIOS, none of the bootup screens are
displayed, nothing else. Machine goes right from "save to disk" to
"shutting down." If one then switches the power off, the "save to disk"
graphic reappears, completes itself and the unit shuts off. Switch it on
again, and this closed loop repeats. No key strokes or combo of them seem
to break out of it. Starting with Win98 recovery disk in drive A: doesn't
work because no disk drives other than C: drive are accessed.
Any ideas??

Please. If you are new here, you must visit
http://pages.infinit.net/mrobich/test_posting.html
Do not be put off by the "Test Posting" name.
The page contains some very IMPORTANT information.
The BIOS is detecting the save-2-disk partition has a valid image on it and
the CMOS has a tag in it to say 'resume from disk' on startup.
But the Window 'image' has a problem.
Remove the hard disk and then go into CMOS and change settings to
save-to-ram (or reset to defaults if that doesn't work).
Then put hard disk back in. Might have to re-format the save-2-disk
partition with utility, e.g. PHDISK, provided by mfr (but watch it!
sometimes these utilities may destroy all your partitions - it has happened
to me!)
Otherwise, reset the CMOS using a link (if provided) in the notebook, or
remove ALL notebook batteries (internal RTC battery too) and allow CMOS to
discharge and lose all settings for say 30 mins before replacing batteries.
cheers
