Listen, Lawrence Twistbit. Can you listen before speaking ?

I'm as new to newsgroups as you obviously are. A usefull guide to "netiquette" can be found at:
http://www.mvps.org/access/ subject Netiquette.

This newsgroup comprises people ranging from gurus to beginners. I count myself around the middle.
If I'm not up to speed on some subject, I try to see what's going on before posting my own message.

I never multi-post nor cross-post (maybe this is an exception). I try to determine what the target newsgroup is for my problem. If
the problem is not answered, then I might try another newsgroup.

The reason for the problem, is that any particular newsgroup might involve the download to thousands of users of perhaps 100's of
messages per day. If you multi-post or cross-post, that becomes 10's of thousands. I'm sure you can understand that.

There are certainly guru's out there. The only reason they would subscribe to a newsgroup like this would be to impart their valued
knowledge, which the likes of you and me can take comfort in. If we knew as much, we would be gurus too and have no need to
multi-post or cross-post silly messages like yours.

[groups I don't read cut off]

What I particularly dislike about your post is that it doesn't ask
anything - not even anyone's opinion on cross posting versus multi
posting, it doesn't answer anything and it doesn't give any kind of
information related to the groups you've posted to. It's simply
off-topic in _any_ technical group. Reading this:

makes me simply that you do nothing but rant yourself.

Since you don't ask an opinion on the subject, you won't get one from
me.

Thank you for an appropriate and thoughtful response.

I posted that because I had just seen the umptheeth person flamed for
multiposting (earlier that day I saw someone flamed for crossposting) and
was more then a little tweaked with the news group righteousness patrol.

Your right, I asked no questions. I was hoping to cause members of the
patrol to think twice before flaming the next poor innocent slob who did
exactly what I did.

There are times when cross posting is appropriate and when multiposting is
appropriate and there are groups who favor one over the other.

My apologies to you for wasting your bandwidth with my ranting.

Lawrence.
