Hello

Since I installed the Service Pack 2 (Office XP) Outlook crashes
(freezes) every 10 to 30 minutes.

The Event Log says:

Source: Application Hang
Category: (101)
Event ID: 1002
Type: Error
Description: Hanging application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 10.0.4024.0, hang
module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

Or ''Hanging application OUTLOOK.EXE, version 10.0.4024.0, hang module
mso.dll, version 10.0.4219.0, hang address 0x00008806''

One time I got the following error:

Source: Microsoft Office 10
Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Type: Error
Description: Faulting application outlook.exe, version 10.0.4024.0,
faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00201dc4.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

If I try to re-install SP2 it stops saying ''This update has already
been applied...''

Thank you for any hint!

Greetings from Switzerland

Christoph

I can't help, but I can commiserate, the same thing has been happening to me
since I applied SP2!

I can only add my voice to this! Glad I'm not the only one. It seems to
happen more if the PC's in standby (I have it set to standby after 30 mins).
Whether this is related I don't know, but for now I'm going to go back to
SP1.

After installing Office XP Service Pack 2, I can't even
get Outlook to load. It just hangs on startup taking up
99% of the CPU. I can cancel it and come back in Safe
Mode, but that has its disadvantages.

I get the same thing as well. I am using only POP3 and
IMAP. I don't use stand-by mode but it does seem to crash
and/or hang about 6-10 times in a 24 hour period.

I found a solution. Rename outcmd.dat to outcmd.old and restart Outlook. It
will startup.

That worked. Thanks. How'd you figure that one out?

I tried this too but it did not help with my problem.
But, what is the function of this file an when will it be rebuilt?

I'm not sure what the function of the file is. The file
was rebuilt but was much smaller, 1KB versus 5KB.

The Outcmd.dat file contains the user's toolbar and menu customizations. If
you rename it, Outlook resets all toolbars and menus to their default
settings and builds a new Outcmd.dat the next time you customize a toolbar
or menu.

I also tried it but didn't help. The only way that this was fixed was
to creat a new profile like in an earlier post and that fixed a
multitude of slow problems and loading lockups. Someone at Microsoft
meeds to take a look at a couple of these profiles that are causing
problems and create a cleanup tool to fix the messups...
