I have created a PowerPoint presentation that uses a number of 30 to 60
second mpeg1 video clips. These are set to start automatically when the
slide is displayed. My problem is that when each clip starts the video goes
black for a fraction of a second before playing. This gives a sort of black
flash effect which I really don't want. Is there any way of getting rid of
this? It happens on all the PC's I play the presentation on. The flash
occurs on all my clips. I have also tried using avi files and this effect
DOESN'T happen but the quality of the video is much worse for the same file
size

can anyone help?

That's a 'feature' of MPEG1 clips.
You could set it to 'Hide while not playing' under Custom Animation if that
works for you (this way you will not get a freeze frame at the end).

Laurence

My trick is to draw a box, usually a coloured panel to
match the background, on top of the imported movie.

This makes the video invisible for a brief period.

When played as a show, the coloured box displays untill
the movie file starts which then plays without the jump
you mention.

Not perfect but it is an easy work around
