Hi,

I've got one of those P4B266-LM Asus boards out of a Sony VAIO
machine. I had a pci device that wasn't coming up, so I looked over
the bios updates and saw a 'new' one (1004) from 1002, grabbed it, and
flashed it.

Turns out, this board is a 'LM' and not 'M', and the bios update to
1004 from my 1002 has now made the machine un-bootable. I see the
'LM' can barely be found on the web, and perhaps a true OEM board from
Sony, (to my dismay). So, at this point, with whatever tech info I
need, (like the bios chip manuf), I may even have to go for the
replacement $25+ plan. Don't know, that's why I'm writing.

Think I should I pull the battery or jumper? Instructions suggested
on first boot go into bios and set bios values to defalt. Sounded
good, can't get there. This machine at power time, turns on for 1 sec
and auto shuts down. I have to pull the power cord and then replace
it to get another chance at the 1sec. Figure I'd hold tight, before
it got worse. I'm posting here and have written asus tech supp.
Looking for suggestions.

Thanks,

scav

You sure could try it...........But other 'bad' things may have happened
during the attempt to flash. If your CMOS chip is socketed, you can get a
new one pretty easily. If not, the board is toast and will have to go back
to Asus for repair.

Thanks for the reply Pete. Yep, board is toast. Bios is not in a
socket, it's soldered to the board. Pulled the battery, no change, no
boot. This odd model will be happily replaced as it's off the major
manuf's list anyway. Appreciate the reply. Thanks. -scav
