They might not always, but you'd be surprised how many open bowlers come in
dressed exactly that way. Someone rented our center out for 4 hours today, and
most of the bowlers came in sporting retro shirts of all kinds. I think we
need to get the chip off our shoulder, because if that's how people perceive
bowling--in nostalgic terms, so be it. At least they're bowling.
I'm actually glad this commercial got made. A few months ago some scouting
people called and asked to use our center's restaurant as a backup. We have
the 50s decor with the black and white tile, red booths, etc. But since they
never came, I wasn't sure if the commercial got made or not--I just knew Little
Richard was in it.
Turns out they did film it--at All Star Lanes in Eagle Rock, California. One
of two centers with above ground ball returns in LABA and it's like stepping
into a 1940s train station...They've used it in several commercials. I'm
amazed how many commercials they have used it in. This time though, it was
well lit. It definitely doesn't look like that any other time.
The center is always rumoured to be closing, so I best get the juniors over
there to practice soon. Up til a few years ago they still used a mop to do the
lanes, and needless to say, bowlers from that house had a way of winning a LOT
of tournaments.

Is Thunderbird Lanes still around as well? I believe it is just North of
Ontario off 10 ... West I believe.. They had a great logo neon sign you
could see above the freeway. I always wanted to go there and bowl.

Fraid that one bit the proverbial desert dust. Several new(er) centers popped
up that way and I was told it was bulldozed. One of the guys we bowl Mondays
with co-owns the newer center that way, so I will ask him what it's called
because I am drawing a blank.
