I'm currently working on small project to show how insecure WEP is,
I've set up a small test lab with wireless equipment. I'm running
Airsnort 0.2.0 to crack the WEP key and was wondering if anyone has
had a similar problem. Airsnort runs fine for about the first 2000 or
2500 weak packets, I usally hit this amount around 2 million packets,
after that the weak packets slow way down, by the time I get around
3800 weak packets I'm at 14 million total packets. Any ideas on how
to stop this or is this just the way it is?

Thanks in advance
Matt

We tried this with WEPCrack, and I'm sorry to say that once we had more than
twice the amount of "Interesting" packets we were supposed to need, it still
wouldn't crack WEP. The way we sped it up was to ping -t -l 64000 every
machine on the wireless network. We would have like 100 command windows
open all pinging around our network. It really sped up the number of
interesting packets, but then we weren't able to crack it in the end. You
can give it a shot, but I don't know if it will help you.

Vinny, using AirSnort 0.2.0 I have cracked my 40 bit key in about 7
hours and my 128 bit key in about 14 hours. I also had to grab at
least twice the amount of data than the docs discussed. It took about
27 million encrypted packets total to reach the 4679 weak packets that
it needed to break the 128 Bit. It just started out looking like it
should have taken about 4 hours for the 128. I did send an email to
Snax who is currently running the AirSnort project to see what he
thought. Kinda of scary that this can be done using the P5 150 laptop
that I'm running Airsnort on!

Interesting. I am going to have to give it a shot this weekend. Thanks for
the info.
