I've been having th esame problem for a month now - since I upgraded to IE6.
Was fine under 5.5

OK Guys.

Have you tried re-installing the OS over itself?
And - this is probably really the answer - you need to use your backup that
you made when it was all working properly.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks Shane

I know as a last resort that may do it. Was hoping I wouldn't have to do
that.
Thanks

Bob,
See if this helps ........
To repair Search:

Open Windows Explorer to the (hidden) Windows\Inf folder
Locate "srchasst.inf", right-click and select: Install

To view hidden files in Windows XP:
Click Tools | Folder Options | View
1) Select: "Display system folder contents"
2) Select: "Show All Files and Folders"
3) Uncheck: "Hide file extensions for known file types"
4) Uncheck: "Show protected system files"
Click Apply\Ok

Thanks to all, but it seems it was my 'Yahoo Companion Toolbar' that was
causing the problem - uninstalled and reinstalled it and things are now
fine.

Thanks again.

Don't do it Bob, it doesn't work. I already reinstalled the OS, and it came
back with the same IE 6 problem -- the program doesn't do searches at all.
It just dies and closes.

I've had to install Netscape so I can use it for all searching.

Mr. Burgess:

This fix doesn't work for me. When I click install, it prompts me for a
file that's on the Office XP CD-ROM. I put that CD-Rom in, but the system
doesn't find any file on there it needs. So, I can't do anything with these
instructions!

Any other thoughts?

Greg

Greg,
What file is it looking for?
Sounds like the Office XP install overwrote a WinXP file that may be
required?
