Greetings and happy holidays to all,

I am researching the WWII US Army experience of a deceased uncle who served
with Company E, 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division in Patton's
3rd Army from 8 Aug 44 until his hospitalization during the fighting in the
Rhineland area.

BTW, if anyone knows of any detailed sources of information regarding the
318th's history in France, WWII, I would appreciate knowing about it.

His "Enlisted Record and Report of Separation Honorable Discharge" (Form
53-55 dtd 1 Nov 44) under the heading "Battles and Campaigns" the following:

Normandy GO 33 WD 45 Northern France GO 33 WD 45 Rhineland GO 40 WD 45

Would someone in this NG please explain the code here?

Thanks for your help.

Google gets 701 responses off of "80th Division".

That should get you started.

This means that these campaigns were declared (authorized, defined -- I'm
not sure of the enabling terminology) by General Order of the War Department
in 1945.
