I go to a lot of record shows and lately I've been seeing those Austrlaian
bootlegs--with a black cover (with photo of artist) and large red writing
saying "Unauthorized Recording" and a very short tracklisting in yellow
(usually 7 songs)-- being sold for a very low price. I once heard their
sound quality were not great since they were recorded from the audience.
Perhaps it is onlyfor certain shows, but my question is does anyone here
know if that is true?
Of that "label", I've seen Michael Jackson, Roxette, (a lot of) Queen,
depeche Mode, INXS, Nirvana, U2, and a few other popular bands.

At the last record show, a friend of mine bought a 3-volume Neil Young set
plus another one (also an "Unauthorized Recording") called "Southern Man,"
all for $30. Yes, $30! - I think they were trying to get rid of remaining
stock. Anyway, when he got home, he discovered that "Southern Man" was
identical to volume 1 (no big loss, since he paid only $30 for all 4), and
so he gave it to me. The sound is pretty good on the whole, though it
varies from song to song. The only problem is that the insert doesn't
give any source details (i.e., date, location) for any of the tracks (of
which there are about 20). The way things are going in Toronto, you'll be
lucky to find *any* bootlegs anywhere, although Edward's Record World
plans to continue selling them (according to an employee there whom I
spoke to), albeit for $39 (+ tax) each!

They are no longer made (they got busted). However, they are digital
clones (AFAIK, they may be analog), of other boot CDs, usually Italian
ones. If you know what you are looking for, you can get the Australian
version for a few $ instead of paying $20-$25 for the Italian version.
Here in New Zealand they used to sell for about $US6 to $US10. Now that
they are no longer available, they show up in the used stores for a
little more than what they cost to buy originally.
Listen before you buy, there are some great ones and some bad ones. Some
are SBDs and some are audience recordings, and generally, they have
reasonable quality for what they are.
