For your amusement or derision ... here is a message I just left
at the Albertson's corp web site. (The store in question is the
one at I-35S and Stassney.)

--- snip ---

I typically shop at the HEB, but a month ago, for reasons of convenience,
started shopping at your store on occasion. Tomorrow, for the second
time in that month, I will be going back to the store to return defective
product.

A couple weeks ago, the problem was that a box of store brand cereal had
a broken inner seal. The outer box was sealed fine, but when I opened
it the inner bag had been broken.

Today, I ordered a half pound of what was supposed to be your premium
roast beef at the deli counter. When I got home and opened the bag, I
was amazed you would try to sell such grizzled and fatty beef as premium.

I'm not an overly picky consumer. I can't remember the last time I
returned a product to another supermarket. I do believe, however, when
I buy pre-packaged food the seals ought to be intact. And I believe when
I buy premium cold-cuts, I should get better-than-dog-food grade meat.

I was treated courteously when I returned the cereal. I would not be
surprised if tomorrow is the same. Still, you seem to have some sort
of quality control problem. If shopping at Albertson's means I'm going
to have to make multiple trips to return defective product, well, that
seems to kind of negate the convenience factor--my entire reason for
visiting your store.

I had stopped using Albertson's completely quite awhile ago (Braker & N.
Lamar), for some of the same reasons below but also the floors were always
dirty (they aren't 24 hour), much of the produce continually looked sickly,
mold inside the deli case window, AND they would would only have a couple of
checkers so the lines were usually pretty long. I haven't even thought about
the store since the new HEB at Parmer & 35 went in, and the new Randall's &
at Parmer & Metric.

Here! Here!!
It's a longer drive but both stores are worth the time, plus the gas at Randalls (with the Randalls card) is so much less than surrounding gas stations, HEB included.

Does anyone know if the Albertson's store in New Braunfels (Landa & Walnut) still open, by any chance?
Not that it really matters to me, as I generally shop at either Wal-Mart or H-E-B whenever I'm in New Braunfels
(both stores that, at least IMHO, have far more better quality than Albertson's ever had).

Of course, Albertson's completely pulled out of the Houston market earlier this year (or was it sometime last year?)

They also pulled completely out of San Antonio as well. I'll check into the
NB store next time I am down there, but I would imagine they did if they closed
all 20 SA stores.

I was earlier this year, HEB bought 5 of the 20 San Antonio stores and
converted them over. They are working on Phase 3 on some of those stores. I
know of at least 3 of the stores, and probably all 5 are getting a little
remodeling done soon after the 1st of the year. Nothing major.

Here is the followup.

It appears Albertson's outsources their website to EDS. An EDS person
emailed me the next day saying expect a response from customer service
within a few days. The local store manager called the following day.
Wasn't able to take the call (been doing a conference this week).
He called again today. He apologized, offered to refund my money plus
a free pound of roast beef.

So, while I still have misgivings about the quality control, I'm satisfied
by their efforts to make things right.
