Hi,

I've got an Toshiba Satelite Pro 4600. I bought it about 1 year ago
and I think it is 1,5 year old now. When I bought it Windows XP Pro
was already installed. Everything worked well, even the Standby mode.
But one day I put my laptop in Standby mode and a few moments later it
didn't "wake up". If I pushed the power button only the green power
button went on, the floppy drive clicks on, just make a sound the
power is switched on. And then nothing....

The HD will not spin, the cooler fan doesn't spin, the monitor stays
black. I called the Toshiba Helpdesk and they couldn't help me, and
told me to bring the laptop to service.... $$$$!

(They even told me the didnt support XP on this model)

I tryed something myself. So I tryed to boot with the powercord in,
but nothing changed. But then, I opened then I changed the RAM module
to another slot and suddenly the laptop went back on. And it worked as
a sunshine for about half a year.

Last friday I had the same problem. I switched my laptop to Stand by,
and a about 20 minutes later I tried to put it back on. And nothing
happend. (except for the powerlight and the short sound from the FDD.
So I opened up the laptop and switched the RAM again, and pressed
RESET a few times and then turned on the power... Nothing happend, I
repeated those steps a few times and suddenly after 10 minutes my
laptop when on again. ALLRIGHT!!! I immmediatly made a backup. Then I
closed my laptop off perfectly with the Shut Down option. Tried to put
it back on.... but no. Again only the light and the floppy drive short
sound.

Now I'm desperatly seeking for some help. Does anybody know this
problem? Please Help!! I looked around on the net. And I found a few
updates for the bios. But I can't even boot up to change it.

Where's the problem? Could it be that the RAM is dead??

---- Hey !! Its good to know that XP works on the 4600 (which I
have).. I think you're problem is definitely the RAM. I have a company
laptop which, when first delivered to me didnt work. The suppply
company ended up sending me three of these laptops, All because they
didnt work / install properly.

All three laptops had strange problems with them- they died when
installing win2k. some wouldn't boot, windows protection error on
Win9x.

When I took all the RAM out and tried each one individualy, I found I
had been given a 'free upgrade' of 2 sticks of crappy RAM - I also had
a crappy Restore CD but thats beside the point- Whenever I used these
shit sticks of RAM ny laptop wouldn't boot or the install would fail
miserably.

Try getting some normal 133 RAM - I have 128MB, 133MHz x2 ... I think
they are samsung chips?!? but they work a dream!
