Hey i was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.
There is this trick where the performer takes a pin or needle and starts to
push it through the back of his hand, and upon turning the palm up, you could
see the pin TRYING to break through the skin (a raised bump in the middle of
the palm) but never does. Then he takes the pin out and the bump goes down as
he pulls the pin out. Anyone ever hear of this trick or know where i could
find it? Thanks

On some peoples hands, if you flex certain muscles, you can create an illusion
of something pushing up from behind. The illusion of the needle being pushed
ino the back of the hand is the old cigarette up the nose type move you can
learn from some magic books.

I don't know if you can still find it, but quite a few years ago I
bought a trick called Acupuncture 3 that was similar. Instead of
bump, when you turned the hand over about 3/8 inch of the pointed end
of the pin was sticking out of the. I didn't think the handling was
all that convincing, but I did see it performed once and it looked
better than I thought it would.

Then there's the version where you actually do push a pin through your hand. I
did that one only once since I became far more careful afterwards.

David Blaine has been performing this on his latest tv show rounds.
Pulls a 'new' acupuncture needle out of it's shrinkwrap, sticks it
into the back of his hand nice and slow and eventually works it
through until the point is pushing and sharply bulging the skin in the
hand at which point it appears to go all the way through a tiny bit.
he then has the host or a spectator pull it out.

it's pretty damn convincing to watch on tv.

Try Paul Harris' book "Supermagic"
page 107 "Pain" by Harry Eng
A steel pin is driven through the hand (book description)
It might be in his 3 volume collected works
Hope this helps

I used to do it with a long piece of wire (may have even used a paper
clip, I don't remember). The gaff is that the wire loops around the
side of your hand, then points straight outward on the front and back.
The wire is hidden in the front of the hand by placng it in one of
the major lines then cupping the hand which folds the flesh over it.
I'd quickly turn the hand to show the wire sticking out the back and
hide that side of the gaff by pointing to the wire with the index
finger of the opposite hand.

If you have an extra thumb tip, poke a hole in the nail and then
another one directly across through the front. Put the thumb on and
take your super long needle (from your needle-thr-balloon) and stick
it through both holes. You'll need to adjust the thumb tip away from
your real thumb of course. This freaks people out. An added bonus is
to take and put a small balloon (or latex glove finger tied off with
dental floss) full of fake blood and place it in the end of the thumb
tip. When you stick the needle through the holes in the thumb tip you
pierce the balloon and blood squirts out everywhere--pseudo-thumb
hemorrage. Remove the needle and take a damp towel and place it over
the thumb. Steal off the thumb tip inside the towel, wipe away the
blood and allow your thumb to be examined. Instant miracle.
