In the holosuite, the Awards staff begins to steel themselves; the
Voyager crew is known for its unusual joie de vivre and last year's
ceremony ended up with certain members of the crew necking in a red
mustang in the parking lot. The staff exchanges nervous looks. This
year, perhaps, the crew will behave themselves.

As the applause winds down, Ed McMahon's voice announces, "And now, we
will begin the presentation of the Voyager Awards with Mr. Michael Ayala."

Ayala approaches the stage accompanied by much cheering from the
audience, many of whom are glad that those in charge of such things
remembered that there was more to the crew of Voyager than the senior
staff. The rest of them just thought it was Chakotay wearing his leather
outfit from his Maquis days.

"It's my pleasure to be here this evening to present the awards for
stories that focus not on a single character but instead on aspects of
the entire crew of Voyager -- the awards for Best Crew Story! In third
place, we have 'In the Arms of Family' by Janet, Christina, Cybermum,
Diane, Julie, Monkee, Penny, and Rocky!"

"In second place, 'In the Course of Justice' by Penny Proctor!"

"And, in first place, 'Beta Energy' by Jemima Pereira!"

"And now I'd like to introduce the Doctor to present the next award."

The Doctor, dressed for the occasion of course, walks on stage as an
unseen orchestra plays a unique arrangement of "You Are My Sunshine."

"Since our return from the Delta Quadrant, it has been difficult to keep
up our tradition of Talent Nights now that everyone has gone off in
different directions. Fortunately, a number of very talented authors
have carried it on for us in the form of some excellent filks and poems."

An exuberant cheer breaks out from the crowd; a few even start singing.

"I've been so impressed with their work, in fact, that I plan on
performing some --"

With an agitated look from an Awards staffer, anxious to keep some
semblance of a schedule, the Doctor adds, "After the show, naturally.
And now, on the awards for Best Filk or Poem."

"In third place, it is my pleasure to present an award to 'The Sound of
Sickbay' by Jemima!"

"In second place, I am honoured to again share the stage with Jemima
who has won the award with 'I've Grown Accustomed to the Phage!"

"And, in conclusion, let's bring Jemima up again, this time to honor
her for 'Janeway! The Musical!'"

As the applause winds down, Admiral Janeway steps onto the stage in a
gorgeous blue evening gown. No introduction is necessary as the crowd
erupts again in applause and cat-calls.

"Thank you for your kind welcome. It has been wonderful to be back on
Deep Space Nine, to get a chance to truly enjoy all it has to offer. I
hope you are all enjoying yourselves, as well. But, let's get back to
the true purpose of this evening and give out some awards! In the
category of Best General Story, we have some wonderful work. In third
place, 'Glory Days' by Rocky!"

"In second place, 'Pot Kettle Black" by the stylus!"

"And in first place, 'Act of War' by Seema!"

"Congratulations! And now I'd like to introduce a couple of former
members of my crew, Megan and Jenny Delaney!"

A stir erupts at the behind the stage, where the dabo table that Quark
refused to close is located. The Delaney sisters, in a slight flutter,
hop on stage.

"We're here to present the awards for Best General Pairing Story," Jenny
tells the crowd.

"Was that because of our excellent match-making skills or the rumours
that we dated around on Voyager?"

"I'm not really sure, Megan, but perhaps it's time to set that record
straight. We only date twins," Jenny says with a sneaky smile, "and
since there weren't any *other* twins on Voyager-"

"Well, let's just say we almost settled on a couple of good friends,
leave it at that and get on with the Awards, shall we?"

From their vantage point overlooking the Awards stage, Djinn and Seema
exchange a look. They nod at each other and then head to their duffle
bags and replace their high heeled shoes with running ones.

"In third place, we have 'A Certain Distance' by RoseKira!" Jenny says.

"In second, 'Killing Game Missing Scene' by anne in chicago!" Megan says.

"And in first place, 'The Heart of the Matter' by Seema!"

"Hey, I thought we were supposed to share the last one!" Megan exclaims.
She pushes Jenny and then Jenny pushes back. The audience whoops and
whistles. The Awards staff groans. Sara and Stephen show up and haul
Megan and Jenny off the stage.

"Continuing with the ceremony," the disembodied voice booms, "let's
bring out a special surprise guest, Mr. Neelix!"

"Ah, so this is the Deep Space Nine everyone's been talking about. All
this new food, new sights, I can't wait to explore! But before I do, the
reason I've been asked here, strangely, is to present the awards for
Stories Featuring a Janeway Pairing. Perhaps it was because I've been
urging our Captain, who is now an Admiral, to explore her options. Or
perhaps the Awards staff had an empty spot since they decided to have
her present the awards for General Story. In any case, let's give out
some awards, shall we?"

The audience cheers as Neelix opens the envelope. "In third place, we
have'all this is window dressing' by not jenny!"

"In second place, 'tom collins never had one in this bar" by Teanna!"

"And in first place, 'Swing Time' by Kelly!"

"Well, that went well," Stephen says as he drags Jenny Delaney up to the
holosuite.

"But we're only halfway through the VOY Awards," Seema points out.

The conversation is interupted with more catcalls. The Awards staff
takes a look. Seven of Nine, characteristically on time, is slinking
across the stage in extremely high high heels and a red evening gown.
Her blond hair is curled into a elegant chignon at the base of her neck.
Seven of Nine is oblivious to the admiration of the crowd.

"I am here to present Awards for stories Featuring Seven of Nine," she
says. "The Awards staff values efficiency, so I shall proceed. The third
place story is 'Stockholm Syndrome' by nostalgia."

The crowd applauds.

"In second place, 'Alone' by Djinn." Seven looks at the envelope in her
hand for a long time. Then she looks up. "In first place, 'The
Lamne'rau' by Jemima!"

As Seven exits the stage, she bumps into Janeway and Chakotay. Janeway
looks smug, Chakotay appears apologetic. To the relief of the Awards
staff, the meeting proceeds without incident.

"Writers have noticed our chemistry since we were stranded on New Earth
together," Chakotay says as he looks longingly at Janeway. "It was just
the two of us --"

"Don't forget the monkey."

"It was just the two of us and a monkey," Chakotay continues, "in a
beautiful, idyllic setting, but --" he holds up a hand "-- I assure you
*nothing* happened. *I* was a perfect gentleman." He glances at Janeway.
"Thank goodness for authors who write about us, otherwise I'd never be
able to tell you how I really feel."

"Oh please," Janeway says, dismissing the comment with a wave of her
hand. "If I hear that 'Angry Warrior' story *one* more time--"

Chakotay hastily opens the envelope. "And so, getting on with the
Awards. In third place, 'And Baby Makes Five' by Seema."

Janeway grabs the envelope back from Chakotay. "In second place, 'Day of
the Dead' by Djinn."

"And in first place, 'The Albatross' by ChristineCGB!"

At that moment, Chakotay grabs Janeway and gives her what the Awards
staff later swears is the *longest* known kiss in the history of mankind.

"Was that longer than the one on 'The Princess Bride'?" Seema asks.

Djinn looks at her wristwatch unhappily. "I think so, but hey, the crowd
seems to be loving it."

The security guards drag Janeway and Chakotay off the stage -- much to
the dismay of the Voyager fans, who have been waiting for this moment
for *years* -- and Harry Kim and Tom Paris take their place.

"Hey Harry, how are you?" Tom says.

"Doing good. It's an honor to be here."

Sotto voce, Tom says, "I tried to book a holodeck for later on this
evening for Captain Proton, but apparently Captain Picard pulled rank
and *he* has the reservation."

"It's okay, Tom. Maybe another time, but right now, we have to present
the Award for Multiple Pairing. So, without further ado, in third place,
we have 'Peacock Blue' by monkee."

Tom checks the next name. "In second place, 'Chakotay and It' by Kelly."

Harry reads off the last story. "In first place, 'Imprinted' by Ventura33."

Harry leaves the stage and Tom stands slightly off to the side as
B'Elanna approaches. She's wearing a maroon evening gown, bought
off-the-rack at Garak's tailor shop.

Tom addresses the crowd. "I'd like you to meet my lovely wife, B'Elanna
Torres, and the mother of my child."

B'Elanna beams at the crowd. The Awards staff is relieved; B'Elanna is
much less violent this year than she was last year.

"I love reading stories about us," B'Elanna says brightly. "Thank you
for your happy endings." She hugs Tom. Tom looks slightly uncomfortable.

"Um, B'Elanna, we have Awards to give out. Why don't you go first?"

B'Elanna nods. "In third place, 'The Sweetest Days' by Seema."

Tom reads off the next one. "In second place, 'One for the Family
Scrapbook' by P.L. Heyes, also known as DangerMom."

"And first place goes to Barbara Watson for 'Friendly Fire, Part I'."

Tuvok approaches the stage. He is dressed in his dress uniform and looks
very noble and gracious as he stands in front of the podium. The crowd
hushes immediately.

"It is my honor to present Voyager Author this year," Tuvok says
gravely. "In third place, we have Jemima!"

"In second place, Seema."

"And in first place, Rocky!"

The crowd applauds as Tuvok walks off the stage.

"And now presenting the last Voyager category of the night," Ed McMahon
intones, "Kes!"

Kes, looking delicate and sweet in a blue evening gown, crosses the stage.

"I'm so pleased I was asked to present Single Person tonight," she says.
"The Awards staff tells me we're running out of time, so I will make
this quick. In third place, 'The Final Candle' by Annie M.'

"In second place, 'What's Left of Her' by Jemima."

"In first place, 'Rocketman' by Seema."

Another Seven of Nine makes her way gracefully to the microphone, trying not
to appear overly interested in her doppelganger who is already standing
there. Instead she nods at Djinn who is watching her fondly from the other
side of the stage. "Djinn couldn't keep away from Voyager this year and,
although she spent more effort on the Captain and my lover, she did allow me
to have my say. I thank her for that and I thank you on both of our
behalves for the kind feedback you gave to Alone. It means a great deal!
Thank you!"

Seven nods formally to the audience, seemingly above the moment, but the
more observant folks watching catch a faint grin as she turns to walk away.

Kathryn Janeway and Chakotay pull away from each other and, realizing they
are supposed to be on stage, hurry out of the supply closet and through the
backstage area.

"Where the hell have you been?" Djinn asks. "You almost missed yourselves
on stage!"

"Ship's business," Janeway says, holding up a hand to forestall any other
questions.

"You don't have a ship anymore," Djinn says but it is too late, they are
onstage and smiling at their twins and at the audience as they walk more
calmly now to the microphone.

"We're here to accept this award for Djinn. She thanks you very much. And
we're very glad she tore herself away from TOS long enough to give us a few
more passionate moments," Chakotay says.

"Especially in such a torrid locale." Janeway grins at him.

"The locale wasn't the only thing that was torrid," he says, his grin even
wider than hers.

"No kissing," Seema mutters from where she has joined Djinn. "For the love
of Pete, no kissing."

"Who's Pete?" Djinn whispers and Seema glares at her. Then Djinn turns her
attention back to the two at the mike. They are still staring into each
others eyes and grinning madly. Djinn clears her throat obviously.

"That's our cue," Chakotay says as he reaches for Janeway.

She lets him pull her into his arms. "Take me, my angry warrior."

The other Janeway and Chakotay, as well as the entire audience, groan.

Djinn nods at Mestral, who is still wandering around doing the roadie thing
and he motions for Silent Bob to help him. Walking out to the mike, Jay
tagging along behind, they each pick up one of the still kissing pair, and
carry them offstage. Mestral, watching them kiss, says, "I miss Maggie."

Silent Bob pats him on the back and nods in sympathy. Jay cops a feel off
Janeway. Djinn and Seema slap Jay upside the head. And Janeway and
Chakotay don't even notice, they just continue to kiss.

Shocked, nostalgia looks up from her apalling crochet. Clearly, the bribes
worked. The somethingth Rule of Acquisition did not lie to our punky
little friend.

She stands up, slightly confused. As she heads to the stage she makes a
mental note to write more DS9 fic in the hope of getting an award
presented by Bashir next year. Cos, y'know, she's shallow like that.

Taking the oddly brick-shaped award from Seven, and staggering a little
under it's oddly brink-like weight, she coughs loudly and took the mike.

"I'd like to thank all them people that voted for me. I don't know what
they were on, but I hope it's legal where they are." She pauses for a
laught that never comes. "So, anyway, I'm ver' touched by this happening
to me. It has almost managed to restore my lack of faith in humanity."

Again, the laughter is not forthcoming.

"I'm so...happy..." As tears of unrestrained joy begin to flow from her
overly-eyeliner'd eyes, the audience finally laughs.

nostalgia swears, and leaves the stage. She is last seen heading to the
bar for a Smirnoff Ice.

> Harry reads off the last story. "In first place, 'Imprinted' by
Ventura33."

A small Borg child in a pink bodysuit, who definitely resembles Captain
Janeway, bounds up on the stage. She announces cheerfully, with a wink in
Ventura's direction, "The Horta has been assimilated. It's safe for Captain
Kirk to come back now."

Ventura glances to the side and sees a large silicon-based cybernetic
organism, now perfectly cube-shaped, with replicator consoles on each of its
four sides. A crowd is beginning to gather around it. Apparently the
little girl, who is happily munching on sugar cookies while she sips coffee
from a tiny cup, has decided that the awards could use a concession stand.

Janeway, who has just managed to extricate herself from both the security
guards and Chakotay, casts a forbidding glare toward the child. "Amelia,
how many times have I told you to show a proper respect for all sentient
life forms . . ."

"Awwwww, Mom!"

Blowing kisses to the crowd, Ventura descends from the stage and gets in
line to order some nachos from the cybernetic concession stand before
Janeway makes the kid put the Horta back the way it was.

"B'Elanna?" Ayala holds out the award, careful to keep a safe distance
from the spatula.

"Did you think Jemima wrote this stuff?" B'Elanna waves the spatula
back and forth. "I was her muse, before I retired to baking. I'd like
to thank everyone who voted for my little parody."

An oven timer goes off backstage. "Gotta run," B'Elanna says, and she
does.

> "In third place, it is my pleasure to present an award to 'The Sound of

A leather-clad figure with a chest that goes on forever approaches the
podium. Most of the audience members think Chakotay has aged extremely
well, but a few swoon and one shouts, "Khaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn!"

The EMH backs away instinctively as Khan grabs the award and tucks it
into a slot in his ammunition belt. "Proceed," he commands.

> "In second place, I am honoured to again share the stage with Jemima

Khan reaches for the award, but the Doctor holds it behind his
holographic back. "I thought B'Elanna was accepting Jemima's awards as
her muse," he says.

"Jemima now possesses a superior muse." Khan reaches through the EMH's
midriff to seize the award, adding it to his bandolier. He taps his
genetically-engineered foot, and the EMH quickly proceeds to the
first-place award.

> "And, in conclusion, let's bring Jemima up again, this time to honor

This time the Doctor hides the award behind the solid podium. "Mr.
Khan, it is traditional to thank those who made this award possible."

"Very well," says the former ruler of Asia. "The musical 'Man of La
Mancha' was written by Dale Wasserman, with lyrics by Joe Darion and
music by Mitch Leigh. I enjoyed it in my youth on Earth; Jemima could
not have filked 'Janeway: The Musical!' without it. She is a superior
filker, and is now concentrating all her powers upon a superior
subject." He holds out his hand. "Will that do, Doctor?"

One does not say no to Khan Noonien Singh. The EMH hands over Jemima's
award.

Seven's eyebrow reaches for the sky as a familiar figure comes out of
the audience. Irene Hansen is carrying a bowl of strawberries.

"These are for you, dear. I really shouldn't have let your parents run
off like that." Irene exchanges the bowl for the award. "Jemima would
like to thank the newsgroup for all their lovely comments about this
story."

Irene lowers her voice to a conspiratorial whispher. "She also said
something tasteless about thanking the Borg Collective. I don't think
Jemima's quite right in the head, if you know what I mean. Did I
mention that you look lovely in that dress, Annika?"

Khan returns to the podium to tuck yet another award into the bandolier.
"Now that Jemima has chosen the superior muse, I trust that her ranking
will only increase in the future. Nevertheless, she is honored by this
acknow---"

A spatula comes flying out of nowhere and cracks Khan across the head.
"That's *my* award, you megalomaniacal usurper!" B'Elanna appears,
cookie-sheet in hand, ready to do more damage.

"Jemima belongs to me now, housewife!" Khan leaps at B'Elanna, who
dodges. In true TOS style they fling one another across the stage and
back, eventually disappearing under the curtains. No one dares
interfere.

> "In second place, 'What's Left of Her' by Jemima."

"Kes," says the EMH, "it's lovely to see you again."

"Hello, Doctor."

"I'm accepting this award on behalf of Jemima and her feuding muses.
She would like to thank everyone who voted for me--uh, her--in this
category, and also all those tireless staffers who make the Awards
possible. I feel that a particular passage from 'What's Left of Her'
sums it up best..."

The EMH picks up a PADD, preparing to declaim, but Kes stops him with a
touch on his holographic arm. "Doctor, I believe B'Elanna requires
medical attention."

He hands Kes the PADD. "I'll be back later."

As Rocky approaches the podium, the orchestra strikes up a reasonable
version of the Springsteen song. In unison, the two women turn and
shoot death glares. A sudden squeak and there is silence.

"I don't write songfic," Rocky mutters and then looks somewhat abashed
when she realizes she said it out loud.

"That's all right," Janeway says and gives the writer's upper arm a
comforting squeeze. Rocky instantly melts into a puddle of goo at
recognition from her idol.

"I can't tell you how thrilled I am to be accepting this award from
you, Captain," she gushes.

"It's Admiral now," Janeway corrects her with a smile. "Remember?"

"You'll always be the Captain to me," Rocky says huskily and then
manages to get a hold of herself. "I am very touched and honored that
my story placed, considering all of the wonderful stories it was up
against in this category. I'd like to thank everyone who sent me
feedback throughout the year, and most of all to Seema who was
instrumental in turning this single story into an entire series."

With one last worshipful glance at Janeway, Rocky leaves.

With a delighted smile, Rocky approaches the podium. Before handing
her the award, Tuvok extends his hand and the two of them exchange a
secret Vulcan handshake. "Write more and prosper," he intones.

"Thanks you," Rocky says. "Words cannot describe how I feel about
winning this award," she continues. "There are so many excellent VOY
authors here tonight who have kept me entertained, enthralled and
emotionally moved throughout the year. I am so thrilled to win
tonight. I'd like to thank the voters, my fellow writers on the VVS7.5
staff, my wonderful and irreplaceable beta and co-writer Seema, and
most of all the Voyager characters who continue to inspire me." Rocky
catches Janeway's eye as the Admiral stands next to Chakotay, with
Tom, B'Elanna, Harry, Seven, the Doctor and Kes all hovering nearby,
and then turns once more to Tuvok standing beside the podium. "I will
always love you."

The band strikes up the opening chords of the Whitney Houston song,
but stops short at a quick slashing motion from Rocky. "Thank you very
much." Rocky gives Tuvok a quick kiss on his cheek and then heads
toward the Voyager crew and disappears in a series of hugs.

B'Elanna Torres and Harry Kim walk out onto the stage. Both look elegant
in their evening clothes and do not seem to show any damage. Seema is
relieved; she had promised Paramount while writing 'Act of War' that she
would dry-clean Harry and B'Elanna and return them to the lot in better
condition than she had found them.

"Seema would like to thank you all for this Award. It means a lot to
her, especially given how many talented authors and wonderful stories
there were in this particular category," Harry says.

"In addition, Seema would like to thank her co-writer and beta, Rocky,

B'Elanna says. She turns and glares at Seema. "Though, *I* personally
could have used *less* realism."

Chakotay and Seven sweep out onto the stage, narrowly avoiding bumping
into Jenny and Megan Delaney.

"You look very nice tonight, Seven," Chakotay says as they approach the
podium.

Seven glares at Chakotay. "Your efforts to win my affection are
inefficient."

Chakotay sighs. He addresses the audience. "We're accepting this Award
on behalf of Seema. She thanks you all for your feedback and support."

Seven adds, "She also would like to thank her co-writer and beta, Rocky,
for her help on this story."

"Even if the outcome wasn't what *I* wanted," Chakotay mutters under his
breath. Seven glares at him and then her face softens as she gazes out
at the audience. Seven looks as if she might faint -- perhaps because of
her tight, tight evening gown, complete with a built-in push-up bra --
but then Chakotay grabs her arm and drags her off stage.

Jerie, an ASC reader, makes her way across the stage.

"Hello all," Jerie says, "I'm here to accept this Award on Seema's
behalf. She is very grateful for your feedback on this story but I'm now
afraid that she will continue on in this vein. When she told me that she
was writing a J/C babyfic, I told her 'no no no' and she went and did it
anyway." Jerie glares up at the holosuite staging area where Seema is
waving at her. "Seema thanks you again for your kindness and the time
you took to feedback and comment."

"And Seema has asked us to accept this Award on her behalf since she's
otherwise occupied," Tom says graciously. He reads from a note card.
"Thank you for your comments and feedback on this story. Seema would
also like to thank her wonderful co-writer and beta reader for her help
and indulgence on this story. Thanks again."

Seema stumbles across the stage; her feet are covered in blisters after
hours of running around Quark's like a mad woman.

"Wow," Seema says as she reaches the podium. "Thank you, all of you, for
this wonderful honor. And in such good company too!" She gazes out at
the ASC community. "I'd like to thank Rocky for keeping me inspired and
writing this year and for allowing me to play in her Glory Days'
sandbox. I'm very grateful to all of you for your support and for your
feedback on the Glory Days stories. It's very much appreciated. Thank
you again."

Tom Paris crosses the stage.

"I'm picking up this Award for Seema. I'm going to keep it short because
this is not a story I can discuss without feeling a little emotional."
Tom clears his throat. "Seema thanks you all again for your feedback and
for taking the time to read and for the support over the last year.
Thank you again. She's very honored and touched."

Largely due to the fact that Christine takes so damn long to get to
the stage (the Section 31 table is at the back of the auditorium this
year - what's up with that?). One again, she's the fashion hit of the
awards. She's dressed top to toe in a shiny red leather jumpsuit, but
the real attention grabbers are her black patent leather boots with
the rhinestones up the sides - and of course, those sunglasses never
come off.

When she gets to the stage she takes out a phaser and zaps Chakotay. A
stunned Janeway watches him fall to the floor.

"Well - I hope that phaser was set to 'stun'."

Christine looks at her phaser. "These things have a stun-setting?"

Janeway dusts herself off. "Well I suppose I owe you for that one but
I find it impossible to forgive you after you left me on that goddamn
space-station with him."

"Shut up and give me my award."

Janeway hands over the award and goes backstage. "Whatever." She
inclines her head toward Chakotay's inert body. "Make sure you get
someone to clean that up won't you?"

Christine glares at her and takes away her microphone. With a stern
glance borrowed from the lady herself she silences the orchestra who
were just about ready to send her off stage to the tune of "Monkey
Magic."

"Well isn't this nice." She says. "I figure some of you voted for me
and I read some real purty comments so I guess I owe many of your a
very large glass of beer. And I wrote this story for a bunch of
jetcers who were the first ones to read my story and I think there's a
lesson in there about humble beginnings - if I ever figure out what it
is I'll be sure to tell you - right after I tell Jemima. Cheers."

She walks off stage, her foot accidentally colliding with Chakotay a
few times.

monkee slinks up to the stage, looking a bit embarrassed.

"Thank you," she says. "I am honored. I guess this just goes to show you
that an evil challenge or triple-dog-dare can lead to good things." She
shakes her head. "Chakotay and Chell," she says, laughing. "Who would have
guessed. Too bad the Voyager PTB didn't think of that one. It probably would
have been a lot more popular than that C/7 thing..."

In the audience, Janeway shoots Chakotay a death glare that would wither a
cactus. He's pretty much used to them by now, though, so he's okay.

"I'd also like to take this opportunity to apologize for not being able to
vote this year. My real life got kind of complicated, and...well, there's
absolutely no excuse. I am sorry, though, because there was some really
outstanding fiction written this year in the Voyager universe, and I really
wanted to give it the feedback it deserved. I'm pleased to see that a lot of
it won anyway, despite my negligence. Keep up the good writing, everyone.
Voyager never came close to its potential on-screen, and we need all of you
to give it the spark it should have had all along."

She turns to leave, but first pumps her fists at Paris and Kim. "Captain
Proton! Satan's Robot! Chaotica! Rock on, you guys! Oh, and Harry - I'm glad
you're not really dead."

Paris and Kim exchange confused glances, but by the time they turn around,
she's already heading off-stage, slapping Kelly and Ventura33 high fives.

Um...

I don't know what to say other than thank you. I haven't posted a fic
in years and RL has been sucky lately and so this award means more to
me than I can say.
