Aladdin Licenses PWC Lossless Image Compression Technology

Today Aladdin Systems, Inc, makers of the StuffIt brand of compression
products for Windows, Macintosh and Unix platforms signed an exclusive
license for the use of the PWC image compression algorithm in the
traditional data compression/archiving market.
PWC was developed by Paul Ausbeck, and is geared toward lossless
compression of indexed images. It outperforms GIF, PNG and other
currently used methods by a large margin. Here are some results of the
PWC algorithm compared to other image compression methods:

The PWC technology will be incorporated into future versions of the
.sitx file format, to further increase compression of indexed images.
Aladdin is aggressively working to further it's lead in
archiving/compression technology, and acquiring the PWC technology is
one of many steps the company is taking to ensure that the .sitx format
continues to provide the best available technology to the users of the
StuffIt brand on multiple platforms.
