I had some strange issues with my dual 1800+ MP's and my Tyan MPX board.
I came back to it one day, and found that the windows system registry
was corrupt. I fixed this issue, but then started getting spontaneous
reboots. Then it stopped posting consistantly. I would also get a static
like noise on the PC speaker when it didn't post and when it did as
well. When it did post, it froze soon afterwards. After taking the whole
machine apart and not getting any results (I replaced RAM, video card
and hooked up the bare rig to see if I could get it to post) I finally
took the CPU's out dusted the whole motherboard (lots of dust where I
am), put a new layer of silver paste on the chips and remounted the
heatsinks. After that all was well again and my cpu's are running at 37
to 41 C temp. Could dust cause wierd issues? I'm hoping to move soon so
this won't be a long term issue but I'm just baffled.

Sounds more like a poorly seated DIMM or AGP card, but if using a pencil
eraser on the contacts to Dimm or PCI, AGP makes the copper a lot cleaner
that could have been contributing to the problem. The DIMM slots are almost
as fussy as the 2460's so taking out the motherboard and putting it on a
flat surface to install or reseat DIMM's can really help. Probably you were
extra careful your last time around and solved your problem that way.

As for dust, positive case pressure and filters for the intake fans does
wonders.
