Yes... I had a proto that was converted to house the three target a long time
ago
Actually, if you look at your manual carefully you'll note (if your
manual is like mine) that it lists BOTH a 3 drop target assembly _AND_
a 5 drop target assembly.
The assumption I made was that SKATE was originally designed as a drop
target set, just like WAR is on production machines.

Apparently, though I've never seen one equipped this way.
You might be able to hook it up if the software rev will support it.

We have replacement drop target decals available, if anyone needs those-
they come 3/set, but we can make the 5-pc sets if needed.

Looking at the switch matrix for RG (had to check), it lists each
switch in SKATE as part of a 5-drop set.
You just need to make sure the software REV will still support the 5
bank.
You might be able to get your hands on some proto roms.

Anyone got some pics of a proto, preferably on the top and the bottom of the
PF around the SKATE targets?
Some protos were also diamondplated :) My NOS wired field wasn't, but is
gonna be before I put it in.

I've seen one or two myself, so I think the DiamondPlated games were
more than just the initial prototype run.

target bank, and a 3-drop-target bank.

I guess the good news is, you don't need any more switch positions.
Since I can't find a Rollergames manual on-line, I can't verify that
there are any solenoid positions open ... but *maybe* there is, and
that signal still exists in the current software.
Anyone taken a peek at the Rollergames flyer? If those really were
drop-targets at one point, there's a good chance it's pictured on the
flyer.
I guess I'll have to check mine when I get home...

Mmmm, that's not what I was intending to say. I'm not sure if the one
that I saw for auction was a test or a prototype; I pretty much
assumed it was a test machine, and that the tests were DP'd. (Seemed
to be the pattern at that time.)

Heyyyy, now we're getting somewhere! As a matter of fact, Rollergames
has one, count 'em, EXACTLY ONE solenoid position open! Solenoid 5A
is listed as not used on the solenoid table.
Coincidentally (or maybe not!!), solenoid 6A is the 3-bank reset
solenoid.

Hmmm, gamearchive has pages 1 and 4 of the flyer, but unfortunately

Sounds verrrryyy interesting to me!!
Interestingly enough (or maybe not), my "Elvira and the Party
Monsters" game has one solenoid open ... 4A. It seemed an odd slot to
leave open (ie: it's not towards the end), so I put a #89 lamp on it
and played a game.
It never fired once. :-(
It did work in the coil test, so I would guess that I did it right ...
there just ain't nothin' there. Oh well, it *would* have been
interesting to find some old, forgotten prototype feature ... but
whatever might have originally started there, doesn't appear to exist
anymore.
Or at least, not in the LA-4 software...

Sorry to dissapoint, but the pictures of the game in the flyer are
from the left-side of the machine, so I couldn't see the S-K-A-T-E
targets.
Someone else says you can see the tops of the drop-targets from
behind, but perhaps I simply didn't look closely enough. Come to
think of it, I probably shoulda scanned it.
Maybe tomorrow...
