I don't care what the retention ogres on this board are saying. I say,
ignore their rantings...............this is a free country and benefits
consumers through the power of capitalism. Now that I've said that, I'll
step down from my soapbox.
I was originally on a SprintPCS plan that included 1000 anytime and 2000
nights and weekends (starting at 8). The whole deal with taxes was around
$85 or so dollars. Now Nextel comes along and signs a contract with my
employer to offer our 200 employees varying plans that are a substantial
discount over what my SprintPCS account offered (slightly discounted dollar
plans but about 80% more minutes). So, since Nextel is the company "carrier
of choice" they have forced employees to switch or limit non-Nextel phone
expense reimbursement to max $75 bucks. So, I'm in a quandry as I'd like to
stick with SprintPCS. Either switch and pay nothing for unlimited Nextel
(as the company covers 100% of the bill), or pay out of pocket to keep
SprintPCS (and I do love my phone and wireless web, 2 definite pluses).
I called SprintPCS customer service and explained my situation to them.
They routed me to their "consolation" department and was offered a retention
plan of:
-no 1 year agreement
-1300 anytime minutes
-2000 nights and weekends (starting at 8pm)
-$100 phone credit
I haven't accepted the deal yet as I wanted to research Nextel a little
further. What other retention plans has anybody gotten? (ignore the
retention ogres on the board) Is the above plan as good as it gets?

wireless web, great sound, tons of cool stuff. i've had voicestream, at&t,
sprint and i've gotta say nextel is my favorite.
could you keep your sprint phone for another month maybe and see how you feel
about nextel before making a decision?

Wow... are you sure that they don't require a 1 year agreement? I am
about to switch to Verizon as I can't make reliable calls on Sprint
from my apartment and I no longer have a land line. I want to switch
to a plan with more minutes and long distance. I have been a customer
for 3+ years and have never been under contract. I called to inquire
about cancelling and was offered a number of deals, one being
1300/3000 8pm Free LD/Web $50 however, they did require a 1 year
agreement. Considering it often takes months for them to resolve
spotty coverage, I don't feel like signing myself into a 1 year
agreement. And now that Verizon's AC plans are so competetive and
include SprintPCS coverage, I don't see why I should risk signing up
with SprintPCS for a 1 year agreement. Verizon has greater coverage,
and more importantly works great in my apartment. Granted the rention
deals have great pricing, but what's the point when you can't make a
reliable call from where you spend most of your time?
If Sprint had never required a 1 year contract for existing customers
who change to new plans I probably would never have evaluated all the
competition. And for me, it's probably best that I did. I find AT&T
and Verizon to have vastly better customer service than Sprint. On my
last call to Sprint it took my 25 minutes to get to the person that
could truly address my issues. And then they excuse that by claiming
to have the most customers (untrue, no?) - how can we expect Sprint to
keep up with that kind of call volume she asks? Unbelievable...
FirstUSA tried that argument with me once. Just because a company is
big and rolling in my money doesn't excuse the company from having
terrible service. I am actually looking forward to saying goodbye.
But I have to wonder if they won't drop the 1 year contract from the
rentention plan as a last ditch effort to keep me.

If I was willing to take a 1 year AA, then the N&W would go to 6500 mins
with a start time of 9pm (instead of 8).

You mean you're paying no monthly fees?

The plan price was and would continue to be $74.99.

Nope, they didn't offer to drop the 1 year Advantage Agreement clause
and I cancelled. I probably will select Verizon's AC over AT&T's
Network Advantage next week and finally be done.

You left out one important item. The monthly cost.
