I'll begin this post by admitting I am in a lazy mood. I could root
through my 400 or so boards and find my spare Street Fighter boardset,
and possibly answer my own question. However, I just don't feel like
sorting boards for 3 hours any time soon.

Does anyone KNOW (Because I can theorize right along with you)
whether the original Street Fighter had two different boardsets; one
for the pneumatic button control panel, and one for the more familiar
6 buttons per player?

I ask because I recently acquired one of the pneumatic versions, and
the air hoses connect directly to the PCB, which surprised the heck
out of me. I expected there to be an auxilliary board or something.
I don't recall seeing the hose connections on my other Street Fighter
boardset, but then again, I wasn't looking for the hose connections
since I had no idea they'd be on the main board in the first place.

Pneumatic buttons?? Why? Never heard of such a thing on a game.

The original Street Fighter had this nifty cab with big, soft buttons that
you could pound on. The harder you hit the button, the harder the punch.
(Instead of "Jab", "Straight", and "Fierce" buttons that we've grown to love
from our SF games over the years, this just had two buttons..one for
punching, one for kicking. If you tapped the punch pad lightly, you'd get
"Jab" and if you wailed on it, you'd get "Fierce."

The original SF came in two flavors...one with the pressure sensitive pads,
and one with the 6-button layout we are familiar with.

Hopefully this makes sense...of course, I have no idea if the PCB was
different. So...this doesn't help the original poster at all.

=)

I have only seen the 'normal' streetfighter pcbs and cabients in recent
years, but i rememebr the pneumatic buttons back in the day.. I have a pcb
on auction right now, but i assume its the plain version as there are no
pneumatic hookups..

if you just got a cab, is it possible that the pneumatic tubes went into a
sub pcb that translated the pressures into the 3 levels of attack ferocity,
that were then wired into a standard pcb??

you moved the joystick.Like a puppet?:)

Here's a couple pictures of the cabinet, and the boards/hoses. The
metal plate between the control panel and board is just a passthrough,
presumably to make it easier to replace broken sections of hose.
