I just started getting this error with games when I installed a
Creative Labs sound card (Audigy 2). I solved the problem by disabling
a new service the installation of the Creative Labs product
introduced, CREATIVE SERVICE FOR CDROM ACCESS. You do this by clicking
the start button, then run and typing MSCONFIG in the box. Click
selective startup in the GENERAL tab, click SERVICES, then click Hide
All Microsoft Services. If you see the service I mentioned click the
box to the left, clearing the checkmark. Click OK, then reboot. It did
work for me, so it is worth trying if you have a Creative Labs
soundcard.
Anyone know what the CREATIVE SERVICE FOR CDROM ACCESS does? I
haven't come across any problems after disabling it yet.
