I don't have my server connected to a workstation right now and have
disabled my network. The network card is still in the server. I have
disconnected all mapped drives.

For some reason, I still get the preparing network connections message when
booting. How do I make this message go away? That would save me about 5
minutes.

Thanks,
brettr

Install the Microsoft Loopback adapter as your "network" and disable all
other network connections in Settings->Network and Dial-up Connections.

I can't now. Looking at my Networking section in Control Panel, the only
thing there is my dial-up connection. That's even more odd why it tries to
establish network connections.

What to do at this point? Reinstall the network with loopback adapter?

Thanks,
brettr

Well, you could switch the "Server" and "Workstation" services to be manual
start instead of automatic.

You should simply remove the NIC. That will eliminate your problem. That
will remove any network settings etc. so there will be no need for it to
look for one.

As I said, I've already removed it.

had the same problem with my server, had two nics one connected to
cable modem the other connected to local lan, changed the binding
order in networking properties>> advanced>>advanced settings, made the
local first.
this problem is mostly caused when u have 2 nics installed, coz the
DC trys to check for DNS on the first nic.
dont know if this will help u , but atleast u'll get an idea of whats
happening.
