Hello,

I am running a Windows 2000 Active directory domain, and I'm having problems
applying a logon banner using group policy. My client PC's are 2k, and XP.
The banner seems to get chopped off at the first sign of punctuation(comma
for example) The banner is fairly long (government) and i am aware that
there was a limitation of 255 bytes under Windows NT. When I was using
System Policies to distribute the banner, I was able to edit the .adm file
to increase the MAXLEN key to 2048 bytes. I am not sure if this limitation
still exists, and searching the .adm group policy administrative templates
for "banner" or "legal" produces nothing. I am currently using the following
administrative templates:

conf.adm 7/22/2002
inetres.adm 6/6/2002
system.adm 8/21/2002
wmplayer 10/31/2002

What are the rules for this banner under Windows 2000 and Active directory?
Can I use punctuation and spaces? How many bytes can I use? Google and
Microsoft searches only produce articles relating to NT4 and System
Policies. At one point i found an article which indicated that a banner that
was composed on a XP machine would not display correctly when distributed
through Group Policy. Unfortunately I cn no longer find that article.

Help!

Use quotes and commas before the 256 character limit.
Such as :

"My very long and boring legal notice.....","The second
half of my legal notice.....","Even more legal notice..."

This will allow you to have more then 256 characters.

Actually, a comma is all you'll need before the 512th character. Don't
sweat the "Quotes"
